Your male het for amel looks small, how much does he weigh?

They all are great looking! Best of luck!

The male weighs a little over 300 grams and is almost 5 ft long. Been try to feed this week so I could get them ready for Bru the next couple of weeks.

Congrats on the breeders...Dont you hate waiting... Only about 5 months to go before hook ups(If they hook up in March) (counting Nov)...

got my caramel stripe more pictures to come. Only 2008 so will have to wait another year to add to my breeders.

Its another female

Well I got my caramel stripe on Saturday looks like another female (was hoping for male since I only have my anery oh well thrilled to have a caramel.). Was told she's from last year but she's just about 3ft now. Still waiting a year to breed her though. Guess I'll have to wait till next year for another male my husband would ring my neck if I got another breeder.:grabbit:

New Pic of my male gaining weight

:santa:Here's my breeder male Letterman. I've trying to put weight on him he arrived to me at 304 grams & 4 1/2 ft long. Well he is now 340 grams & I've had him six weeks so he's gaining weight nicely. All my females with exception of yearling Caramel & 2 hatchling Amels are currently in Bru.

Letterman looks good! I love gray snakes, anery, charcoal, granite, etc! Somebody educate me -- is it stressful or dangerous for a male who's only just over 300 gms to breed? I can easily understand the issues for females... Either way, looks like Letterman is going to be a good size by spring so no worries for him!

Very nice snakes!! Congrats, good luck, have fun, and make sure to post pics when the babies come!

I have to wonder, though, how Letterman got so thin? Was the previous owner starving him? I'd be worried about a health issue there... =/

wstphal-- The usual recommended minimum size for a male to breed is 200 grams, and people have successfully bred smaller males than that... So, no, I don't think being small would stress the male. That might be completely different for an underweight male, though.

Congrats! He's a nice looking boy. I don't think you have to worry about his weight when it comes to breeding though. Males only need to be roughly 18 months old and over 100 grams. I bred a butter stripe male this year that was barely 100 grams to 3 different females. They gave me lots of fertile eggs and healthy hatchlings. I wold just go with feeding him an adult mouse once every 7 days for a while. When Spring hits they tend to gain weight pretty fast naturally any way. If he get's too big he may become a lazy breeder. ;)

Well I got another male

I picked up a motley het. ultra, caramel, & lavender. He may need to wait another season but by next year I'll have 5 females breeding age & I don't think one male would be adequate :grin01:. Plus I wanted to have more of a variety with morphs. Well here's my beautiful boy, he's an '08 from Kyle of buckeye river reptiles.
