And a lurker posts....

Hello, everyone!
I was recommended to this site by a man who used to breed corns. We started talking after he found out I had purchased a baby from his old stock, and he told me to come to this site for good info on corns, so here I am!

I now have two The first is an early '09 hypo snow I named Dijibaba (Diji for short). I wish I could remember everything in her breeding, but I *know* she is het amel, anery, carmel, lavender, and maybe motley and stripe. I know there was more, as I looked at her possible hets and thought "oh, covers just about everything..." little did I know! I'm going to try to see if the person I bought her from can talk to the breeder and see if maybe he kept records on her clutch...

The second is my little boy - hatched late summer. Adonis is an amel - although since I have been on this site his coloring seems to be closer to the photos of ultramels I've seen. I'll try to post a pic of him soon and see if maybe anyone can help in that department. He was a "surprise" clutching that happened while Tom was getting ready to move. *If* Tom's male is the daddy (and the female wasn't already preggers when he bought her) then Adonis is het carmel at least. I am hoping to breed them eventually. Any thoughts on the combo from more experienced peoples?

Ok, I've got a pic of Adonis. I'll have to wait on Diji and try to get a good shot of her in sunlight - the flash really washes her out.

Welcome to the site! Very pretty snake there. Wish I could tell you one way or the other but I am slowly learning everything myself. Good luck, look forward to seeing your other baby!

Welcome! Nice looking snake. Does Adonis have belly checkers? He looks like a motley to me. You might already know about this calculator, I have a lot of fun with it. It's really nice because it will show you what the offspring of a pairing will look like as well. http://www.corncalc.com/
Have fun & learn lots here!

Welcome to the hobby and the forum! I've learned a lot here and had a lot fun sharing this enthusiasm with others. WARNING: Corn snakes are addictive!

I can't see your photo from work, but I'll check it out later from home. You asked for thoughts about your snakes' genetics. If Diji's a hypo snow, she's homozygous for amel, anery and hypo-A rather than being het form amel and anery. The other hets your mentioned make for quite an interesting genetic makeup!

If you were to breed your two babies down the road and Adonis is het caramel, you'd get 25% butters, since Diji is het caramel for sure. The rest, assuming that Adonis isn't het for anything else, would be phenotypically amels.

Again, welcome and enjoy!

Hi Ayin. I'm a new comer too. Please post a picture of Diji so the experts can get a look at her. Adonis is very pretty, and I am sure the 2 of them will produce interesting looking little ones in a few years. Keep taking pictures too so we can see how your little ones are growing up -- I really love the progression threads.

Thanks, guys! I will definitely post progression pics in the photo gallery once I get a few more decent shots of them both. I fell in love with Diji immediately, and when Adonis's clutch hatched, I spent a very long time agonizing over which one to get. It came down to him - he was the darkest red while still having very clean white - and a particularly nice normal. He won, since he was mellower and definitely a "he", the other was more flighty and sex wasn't able to be determined. Although I *did* try to talk my husband into letting me get both...

Caryl~ Thank you for the correction and the info. It's been a while since I've had to deal with genetics! I'll get it down eventually. And yeah, they are addictive... that's why I have 2 already! lol
If I could get a butter out of them, I'd have to keep one...
