The Rule Of Thirds.
...such were the words in a telegram (back when telegrams were sent) by jazz-era author and wit Dorothy Parker to a friend who had just given birth. Ya gotta love the double entendre.
Well, Mrs. Parker's namesake in my collection is due for some congrats as well. In the dark of early Sunday morning, she laid a clutch of 17 eggs.
My first. clutch. EVER!!!
Dottie's an 04 Lav purchased from Scott Petty; the sire is my '05 Opal, Earl Monroe, purchased from Frank Pinello. So it's lavs het amel for me....not counting any other surprises.
The first shot is the proud (and deflated) mom showing off her work and her backbone; the second shot are the "declumped" 17 on the other Palmyra, Wisconsin Egg-Cam. It will refresh every two months.
From where this newbie breeder sits, there are 12 solid eggs, and 5 questionables - they're the five along the "bottom perimeter" of the photo. Of the 5, the one second from left was the only completely "slug-like" egg; yellowish with slime, but solid (so I'm gonna give it a chance); the other 4 were discolored just on the tips or smaller sections.
But for a first-timer.....both she and I.....I'm ecstatic.
(So this is what the hobby's all about, eh?)
regards,
jazz
