Over 260g big for a yearling?

CoralSnowCorn

Addicted To Corns
I have a amel corn nake that is over 260 g and is only 1 month over a year old. She only get a mouse every 7-10 days which is a little small or the just the right size for her. I also have a snow corn born the same month and is just over 190g, is the more average or smaller?

Make sure you're taring the scale first so it doesn't include the weight of the container.

I did make sure to get ride of the weight of the container, I think I will get a digital scale some time soon, but I am pritty sure the weight is right.I will post some pics soon just to show .

i have a 3 month old at 50 is that odd?

Maybe, how are you feeding?. Mine was hatched June 23rd so he is 3 months and is at 18 grams eating two pinkies twice a week.

If your name is Dean, then it's kinda on the smallish side.

My 06 okeetee female born in June, so about 15 months old currently, is 271g. 06 Blizzard female a month or so younger is 265g. Both are a little large for their age, which might be due to a diet of mostly African soft furred rats. They have good muscle tone and are not fat. I feed them on a schedule similar to the Munson plan that I came up with on my own over time. I also slit the backs of all prey which probably helped them grow a lot faster. I imagine growing my own feeders helps as well, since I can ensure they are all well fed and healthy.

Corns grow at different rates so you can't really make a blanket statement that they are "too big" for their age.

Sounds really big to me, my snow that's a few months older than yours is about 180 grams. But I'd say that in finland we feed them a little less enthusiastically.

Less enthusiastically than every 7-10 days? So what is your point, all Americans powerfeed our snakes and all of you in Finland don't?

Naah. We do feed them at the same intervals as you do, but as far as I know, slightly smaller amounts. I know powerfeeding is another thing completely. Personally I feed a little less than I would if I was following, say, the Munson plan. I don't really think it makes much difference apart from snakes growing faster or slower. They get just as big eventually as far as I know. I've heard some claims that they live longer if they don't get fed extreme amounts when they're young, but since I haven't really seen any evidence I'm just trying to feed "inbetween" sort of amounts.

Definately didn't mean to be offensive or anything. :)

my yearlings range from 50 to about 120 now... saying that, i have a few 05 serpencos that are 50 grams or so, eat well just dont wanna grow lol

My first corn is a normal from Serpenco originally, and she eats eagerly. she's an 05 and about 470g last feeding. The only very small serpenco snakes I hear of are always overseas, must be the distributor that is doing the importing that is underfeeding them.

wait a sec.... i just bought a snake that's a little over a year and i weighed it at 25 grams! maybe i messed up... but i don't think i did... im gonna check again when i get off work. if i was right weighing the first time.... how do i help bring his weight up?

Just feed a proper size mouse every 4-5 days and your 25g snake should grow quickly. I bought a coupld underweight 06s back in March and in the 6 months since then they have packed on a lot of weight and size. I think they're about 130g and 200g now, from 20g and 27g originally.
