New Arrival: '03 Striped-Anery-Blood

Here's Abner. He was produced by Rich Hume, and Rich just sent him to me yesterday. Since my breeding goals are striped-blood-everything, he's a very welcome addition. He's a big boy too. I haven't weighed him, but he's at least 500g.

He's just clearing from blue, but I couldn't wait the few days for him to shed to post pics. I wouldn't have expected so much of the coral-y color that he has on his lower sides, belly, and tail. I think it's pretty cool.

You are still getting all the cool snakes :) He is very nice, I like the lack of pattern the stripes get as adults.

WOW! Dean he's a stunner!
Thanks Beth. :)

Hah! I guess so. :) But I think this will be my last for '07 (with the possible exception of a pair of blacknecked garters I might be getting from Joanna/Jodu).

Thanks for the compliment. I like him myself. My goal with the bloodred/diffused gene is always patternlessness, so the stripe gene is almost a cheating shortcut. The only problem is that if you like darker bloods and blood combos, the stripe gene has a hypo-ish effect.

WOW! I suddenly like striped's...
:) I like fully-striped corns too, but I MUCH prefer patternless.

very nice looking 500gr try 600+lol what are you breeding him to this year??
Thanks! You may be right, but I have small hands. I won't have any striped-bloods ready for him next season, so I'm pairing him with a straight-up SMR bloodred.

Wow, Abner is gorgeous! Congrats!

Can't wait to see pics after he has shed.

As an aside -- Upon seeing his name, the first thing I envisioned/"heard" was Gladys Kravitz crying out "Abner!" "Abner!". :grin01:

Thanks Deb. And he was named with Abner Kravitz in mind! :D And it's also a semi-anagram of anery-blood.

You, Beth, and I should co-ordinate our breedings: I'm shooting for striped-blood butters and lavenders, but won't have anyone big enough to breed for a while yet. :)

Sheila, I would LOVE to. However our friend Dean here already has the mouthwatering makings for every possible combo on the planet!

Now, if you and I collaborate our efforts, we just might be able to give him a run for his money!

*she says fully acknowledging that some of her best snakes were bred by Dean, himself!*

Hah! Well, that's not really true, Beth. And any single female can only do so much in a season. I think where we're going to help each other the most is in trading stuff down the road. :)

I havent seen a stripe with that bronze color before he should produce some great offspring.
I hope so! He has a date with his own sister scheduled for '09. I've never seen her, but the things I've heard about her are VERY promising... ;)

GREAT name. Suits him perfectly. Lets see some pics of that boy once he sheds, please! Outside of at all possible! Congrats on the pick-up. No way you could regret adding that stud to your breeding program!

The last picture of him is priceless. He looks like he's saying "My new dad- I love you!" He's very beautiful. Stripes are the best.

Thanks Stephanie. I'm glad you like the name! I'll definitely get you some outdoor shots of him when he sheds. :)

Very very nice! I'd have called him Doc Savage!
Thanks Janine. I had to go to Wikipedia for that reference. I'd never heard of the "Man of Bronze". ;)

Pictures can lie. I don't think he loves me very much yet. He's a bit jumpy still... :)

Nice pick-up Dean! Wow.... Maybe I'll have to send you a few more loan animals...
Thanks Jeff. He'll be under-utilized this year, but probably not in subsequent seasons. So if you have someone in mind, let me know...

That's sounds like a great plan. Looking forward to it.

Somehow, he is about the least corn-looking pure corn I've seen, even though you would think a Blizzard would get that distinction. The cheek and neck yellows are about the only giveaway, but I imagine you would rather not have that.

None of which means he is not a fine-looking snake, both color-wise and his physique. Maybe the first to warrant a re-issue of the mocha name. :sidestep:
