SunGlow Striped Motley - Male

You guys are bad, bad, bad and I should not go to my favorite reptile store, when I'm frustrated... comfort shopping is not good, but it was The Tied-Dyed Iguna or Burger King... I chose Tied-Dyed.

Meet my newest addition, a male (I believe) Sunglow Striped Motley, who will probably be named MacLeod. He was just hatched the middle of November, so just about five weeks old, weighing in at 6grams and measuring 9.925."

Both parents are Sunglow Motleys and he is a full sibling to the Sunglow, Tessa, that escaped last year. The petstore bought the pair from the breeder and didn't not realize that the female was gravid. Only three of her clutch hatched out and all three were Sunglow Motleys. The other two were smaller than this one and not eating consistently, but did have "better" motley patterns. This guy was out and watched me for the longest time, but sliding under the waterdish. Then when I got him out to hold him, he just laid there calm as can be... I've never had a snake like that... they've all tried doing high-dives out of my hands... so he came home with me. A snake that I finally might be able to play at the computer and not worry about him trying to make his escape.

The fellow and his wife that owned the store told me that they hadn't really decided to sell the fellow and had actually turned a couple of people down who wanted to buy him, but knew I would give him a good home, so decided to let him go. He was a little expensive possibly for a Sunglow, but I got the last one for the price of a normal, so I'm probably still ahead :)

The pictures I took didn't turn out very well... I really don't know how Lore gets such great shots with this camera... sigh.... but here are a couple I could salvage. Sunday I'll take more when it's time for him to eat again.

Burger King would have been cheaper :bang:

What is it with you people teasing me all the time with these wonderful motleys!? Geeeez!;)

That is a beautiful baby! Congrats.

He's a cutie!! My snake store never has any interesting corns- but they have a nice selection of kings and milks. Maybe he'll be super-tame and smart like my Jasper!

LOL I loooooooooove motleys, so that was the biggest draw for me. I don't like orange snakes... or so I keep saying... and yet this is three out of four :) Something tells me that maybe I protest too much.

I'll be curious when the next clutch hatches out to see if the store gets anything other than Sunglow Mots. Could be that they have no hets, which means that this guy wouldn't have anything hidden.

Of course, before I decide on a name, I really need to find out if it's male or female. Need to have someone explain how to do it visually since he's such a light colour.

This particular store has an awesome owner, who use to raise igunas and sell them, but he quick doing it because people just weren't smart enough to figure out that they didn't stay small, cute, and small. He's always asking me questions about corns as he's more knowledgeable about the bigger species, which he does sell, but he's very particular about who they go to. It's how I got the first Sunglow Mot so cheap, neither realized that it wasn't just an amel :) The first time I went there, he had some "bloods" (according to the breeder) that didn't look a thing like a bloodred and I told him so, but at the time, he could only go by what the breeder told him. He gives my opinion a lot more weight now after I've been going there so long and had some nice chats with him.

I know there have been several people who have brought clutches for him to hatch out in the past and he's done pretty good with them, considering that the folks had to move them to his store, which couldn't have been good for the eggs.

I do think $30 for a nice little crimson is pretty reasonable. I resisted that one.. had he been motley.... well.... who knows :)
