Size/Feeding/Weight of 07's..

Most of my earlier hatch 07's from late June and Early July are in the 40 - 55 gram range, and the second clutch ones from Sept and Oct are in 20 - 30 gram range.
I don't even feed every 4-5 days, it is usually once every 6 days or once every 7 days. I tried every 5 days for a couple of months time and some of them just got a bit 'plump' for my liking so I switched back to once a week.... This is the first year I have done this, every year before this one I fed all snakes once a week.
I'm also conservative about bumping up in size and usually feed 2 pinkies for a month or two before going up to peach fuzzies.
I have noticed that even with my weekly feeding schedule my hatchlings seem big compared to 07s some others have posted the weights for.

With the range of hatchling sizes and hatch dates it is a hard question to ask but I will try... What weight (average) do you guys feel an 07 snake should be?
Just a curiosity thing, not saying anybody else feeds too much or too little.

My bad - Feeders section

Oops, I was trying to put this in basic husbandry forum so must ask one of the mods if they would mind moving it.

Edit: Thanks Dean :)

Seems right around where mine are. Simbi (July) is at 44g. I'm not sure of Hades hatch date, but I got him in January, he's up to 26 now. The king is a late August and is at 14g. I usually feed every 5th day on the conservative end of the spectrum. If a schedule gets screwed up, then I add a day or two rather then feed early. The exception to this is the amel bloods that I'm trying to fatten up to a healthy weight.

My $.02 for what its worth :)

my '07 is at 48 grams i also feed every 4 days if that has alot to do with it or not....i just thought thats the size was suppose to be...idk

i started a thread like this recently on a uk forum... the results were amazing.. there were even some 200gramers, and those people claim they didnt power feed.
most of my 06 are under 200 grams.

my biggest 07 are about 55 grams, they were imports from the states, i have a lot around the 25 gram mark, and quite a few 12-15 grams, but alot of those are later in the year.

Well I just hope a few more people will post weights
Remember folks this thread is not to say anybody's snake is too big, too small, or fed too much or not enough. I feed once a week, others feed every 5 days, but both ways work and are OK :)

ok well, I dont have tons of experience but I have one who was from April of '07 and she is just barely under 200grams... I have 5 that were hatched in July and all are between 75 and 100 grams. I got 9 from Rich Z's 50% sale and they are now all around the 80 gram mark.

Oh, wow, I feel evil...I feel like a terrible snake-parent...:uhoh:

My Schnee, a snow-stripe '07 who I guess hatched between June or July, is now about 160 g...she doesn't look fat or too round or seem unhappy, and she's got muscle definition when she runs through my hands. :shrugs: She's just always been a voracious eater & a fast grower, I guess. I've been following more-or-less the Munson Plan, but over the past 3 mos, because of constant personal illness & it just being the slower winter months, I have been a lot more lax on her feeding schedule. This is Schnee:
In Oct, I think...about 50 g:

In Dec...about 100 g:

Please don't hurt me. :( I have no reason to plump my snakes up at all, and I've no breeding plans at all, and I really am trying to do the best thing for all of my pets...:eek1:

As for my other '07s...I acquired the 3 of them in early Jan. Habibi, hatched in Aug '07, is now about 29 g; and Hyetti & Zya, from the same clutch, both hatched in Oct-ish, and are both about 12 g each. I've just been so sick lately that the 3 of them are more on a 6-7 schedule versus a 4-5 day schedule.

I have 22 07 corns here, all June-July hatchlings, and I weighed them last in the middle of February ...

Their weights in grams: 10, 16, 18, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 26, 28, 28, 34, 34, 34, 34, 38, 38, 38, 38, 48, 58, 72.

That's an average (mean) of 31.9g.

My '07s were mostly on a six day schedule, with the occasional 7-day stretch (even 8 once or twice). This is more conservative than I've fed hatchlings in the past. But I have more snakes and less energy than I used to. Most of my '07s were summer hatches. They are mostly in the 30-40g range. I have one that's about 70g, but he hatched big, and he grows fast. I have a couple that I received very recently that I believe were autumn hatches. They're still small (10-15g).

That is very interesting..

How are ones under 20g eating in comparison to the 72gramer?

My snakes are March 07 hatchlings, the butter now weighs in at a hefty 98g while the amel is only 73g. They have been fed according to the Munson Plan since the start, and are now on one small mouse a week (the next size up from fuzzies) but my butter is looking a bit stretched these days, with his scales not quite meeting each other. He's going on a diet now, and I'm going to leave him longer between feeds in the hopes that he'll slim down. I don't think he is going to be happy with me

Schnee looks great! I absolutely think some are just faster growers, could be genetic?

Thank you, I appreciate reading that! :)

I think that it is just genetic -- just as it is with people. :p It's interesting, but two months before I got Schnee, I got a former-runaway lav who is an '06 and at the end of June '07, weighed about 10 g, himself. He didn't want to eat much until he got ahold of washed mice, which was around the time that I got Schnee, so it worked out that they were approx the same weight for quite awhile. I wondered if there would come the day when Schnee would weigh more, esp as ShugaBoog fasts when in blue. Well, mid-Feb, Shuga weighed in at 130 g, and Schnee has surpassed that at 160 g! Then again, Shuga is just a sensitive soul of a boy, and I do believe that he doesn't mind his smaller size...;) Schnee has definitely grown the fastest of all of my snakes, though...

Thanks again for the reassurance. :)

Okay, just been through all the cards, and made some notes. This is not all of them - these are just the babies I've had since July, and I've noted the number of times they've fed since July 25th alongside their weight.

From July 25th to today is 32 weeks - 224 days. I feed every five days, and a couple of times have pushed feeding back a couple of days, so the actual number of feeds offered has been 43. Here is a comparison of their weight and the number of feeds they actually ate. The right column orders them in order of number of feedings taken, the left column in order of weight.

72g - 42 | 43 - 58g
58g - 43 | 42 - 72g
48g - 41 | 42 - 26g
38g - 42 | 42 - 38g
38g - 41 | 41 - 48g
34g - 29 | 41 - 38g
28g - 34 | 37 - 20g
28g - 32 | 35 - 22g
26g - 42 | 34 - 22g
24g - 34 | 34 - 28g
22g - 34 | 34 - 24g
22g - 35 | 33 - 18g
20g - 37 | 32 - 28g
18g - 33 | 29 - 34g
18g - 26 | 26 - 18g
16g - 22 | 22 - 16g

Make of that what you will!

This is great, cause I was wondering the same thing. Flash was hatched on 9-8-07 and I've had him for just over a month and I think he is quite small compared to other '07s. I weighed him on Feb 8th and he only weighed 8 grams! I've been reading other '07 weights and I keep thinking I read my scale wrong or something! I am going to weigh him again on March 8th and I will report back here what his weight is. I've been following the Munson plan since I've had him, he's had 7 feedings with me so far. He is getting 2 small pinkies at each feeding, the small pinkies are without a doubt too small but I need to use them up before I move him up to the next size.
