Clutch #2--Bad eggs?

bekers71

What addiction?!
Well I spent the morning checking and rechecking on this lady. She laid 13 eggs. I am sure 1 is a slug because it is shaped awkward, smooth and yellow(Pictured far right in the box). The other 12 Im unsure of. They are all textured, plump and dry to the touch. But they are not white. They are off white. The pic of the one in my hand is just a tad bit more yellow than in person. All the eggs seem small too. Is this my imagination or are they typically this size? They are different in shape too. Some are round and some are long. :shrugs: Could they all be unfertilized? The parents are both first time breeders. I hope at least a couple are good. Please let me know what you guys think.

This egg was fresh laid seconds before this pic was taken.

Fertile eggs are moist when they are first laid. They will dry off & shells will harden to the nice leathery white you see in photos after a few hours.

I have had some odd shapes laid!! Yours all look fine except for the 1 off to the side. Looks like a slug to me.

Also - eggs will absorb moisture over the time they incubate. They will increase in size.

Thanks for the comfort. I was so worried. Poor mom is exhausted. Who knew she would lay 13 eggs. Shoot, every time I looked at her I wondered if she was even gravid.:)

You took the words right out of my mouth. I would choose to add nothing else to Piper's post. Just a confirmation of the information.

Gratz on the clutch! (Wish my clutch this morning looked that good . . . :uhoh: )

Thanks guys. I feel so much better now. They all look like you guys said they would after a while, except the one on the far right.

So this is good for a first time mom?

Thanks again!

Ditto what Piper said :)

I've had eggs from my RO girl that were torpedo shaped and as long as my pinky finger, all hatched perfectly with nice healthy babies :)

Congrats on a great looking clutch!
