Marshmallows?! (Clutch #9)

Drizzt80

Dakota Corns
I've always described corn eggs to people as having the texture of a good quality marshmallow. That soft, almost dusty texture they have? Know what I mean?! I then proceed to tell them their size is oblong and about 1/2 the size/thickness of a marshmallow. Something they can relate to. Well, this girl has been a terror the past few days rummaging through her cage. Twice I arrived at her door with her having the lay box cover torn off, moss everywhere, etc. She finally decided to settle down last night and lay her eggs through the course of the day today. HOLY MAN!! These are quite possibly the single largest eggs I've seen come out of one of my corns! They are almost the size of a marshmallow! A Gorgeous 14 beauties (1 slug)!! The male is a Caramel het Amel, so should get close to an even split of Caramels and Butters. Just an FYI, this pair would NOT breed last year for anything. They may have made up for it this year. :)

Thanks for looking,
D80

Congratulations Brent, another clutch I look forward to seeing the pippies from! :)
No problems there! I'm usually pretty good at getting pics come hatching time! I dropped the ball this year on getting breeding shots, but I'm getting the rest along the way.

Thanks for the comments,

When I finally convinced Kristi to touch the eggs "I had" last year (she's a looker, not a toucher, just generally), that was exactly what she said--they feel like marshmallows! So, I think your analogy is a good one to explain their tactile sensation to the novice, since a complete novice came up with the same one!

Congrats on the clutch. Mama's really pretty - I'm hoping to try the same combination when my baby butter grows up. I don't have a male for her yet, but I'm looking. Keep us posted on your babies!

Couple nice looking Butters in there!

Did the larger eggs produce larger babies or do they seem about average?

Haven't handled them yet so I can't really say. I've been leaving all my hatchlings in the egg box until after everyone's shed this year and last. Not sure if it's a benefit or not, but it hasn't caused any problems.

I do know that last year my Bloodred het Hypo hatchlings came out HUGE from some very average sized eggs. :shrugs:

They've got the cutest faces. :)

I'm really looking forward to after they shed and feed a few times and whatnot. I'm hoping my perfect baby is in that clutch! *crosses fingers*

Danny, I went ahead and dove in today to check them all out etc. and yes, they do seem a bit "heaftier" than your average hatchling.

Nice to see you found the place Em! I can almost assure you that your perfect man is in there somewhere!

Also, guess what?!?! I pulled out the empty egg shells as I always do. 14 eggs, 3 didn't hatch and went bad which left 11 empty eggs. I had 12 beautiful hatchlings . . . perfect 6 Caramels and 6 Butters!! :shrugs:

Yep, I've been lurking around reading mostly. I found a LOT of my questions were answered without having to even really post them.

And I'm really looking forward to seeing them after their first shed!

Whoa... can eggs have two babies in them?

Pretty babies, Brent! Congratulations. Is the caramel male on your website (whose thumbnail I can't see as a large photo, by the way) the sire? Also, I've noticed that certain caramels - like your male - have a silvery or metallic sheen while others do not. Is it heritable? At what point does that coloration become noticeable/predictable? Can you tell after a shed or two, or do you have to wait longer? Thanks for your thoughts.
