1st clutch of my season

desertanimal

2003 UB313
Dam: Judas, hypo-bloodred
Sire: Gregor, bloodred

I enjoy the bloodreds so much that I decided I would enjoy line-breeding them. It's difficult to have too many red and grey diffused snakes, I think.

This is this girl's first year breeding, and she did a great job. 15 pearly whites. I'm proud of her. I'll see if she'd like a tasty treat in a few hours.

I just noticed the glass drops under your snake. Is that for keeping her off moisture while in her lay box? I don't ever remember seeing that done before. Do you always use them? Do you use them in the incubation process? Have you had good success with this method? If it does nothing else, I like the way it looks.

And she deserves the aforementioned treat.....she's deflated! ;)
I know it! The booger wouldn't eat for the past month. I don't mind if when my males decide not to eat, but I found out that I hate it when a gravid female won't! Poor thing is pretty wasted. I reeeeeally want her to eat, so that's why I waited until dark. She ate with no hesitation! Yay!

Oh yeah, Jodu. I got bitten by the breeding bug when I saw all those morphs out there I didn't want to buy from other people! I really am just breeding for myself, but obviously will have to sell the offspring I don't want to keep. I think I will enjoy breeding the morphs I want more than just buying them. I have a normal I bred last year, and I know I'm much more fond of him than I would be if I'd bought him. In fact, I wouldn't have bought him, as I have little interest in normals!

Crackerhead, I used those glass beads last year with success. I just put them in, add a little water, and seal up the egg-container. I take out the moss once mom is done and turn the container into my incubating container. I like the "substrate-less" (if you can call it that, since the glass is now the substrate) methods of incubating, but I didn't want to buy a big square of egg crate, and I can use these other times of the year as decoration in flower vases. The same can't be said for perlite, vermiculite, or egg-crate.

Congratulations Stephanie :dancer:

Can I ask what the piece of paper in the last photo means?

Size referance?

Outstanding Stephanie! I'm in the same boat as you.. I've got my heart set on ghost bloods, and I'd rather pay $150 for a pair of hets than $300 per snake. I'm still feel a bit too inexperienced to breed though. Perhaps next year I'll get my act together and put my older blood pair together in hope of some granites. I really like your bead idea. I'll have to search through some older threads from last year to pull up some info on your method.

Congrats on the clutch!
