Aargh! Unexpected Eggs...

Owned by Corns since 1991
Drat and blast! Second year of trying to breed my Normal Stripe Motley het Amel x Amel Stripe pair, and I'd pretty much given up on them. Absolutely nothing last year and no sign of any activity in that direction this year.

Female has eaten like a champ throughout and showed no outward sign of being gravid. I'd resigned myself to having them as pets.

So I go in for the thorough feeding/cleaning last night and what do I find under the water bowl? 15 fertile (to start with) eggs.

Grrrr! I could kick myself. Can't believe I made such a basic error at this stage of the game. :dunce:

Had them in an incubator overnight in damp vermiculite covered with damp moss and a couple look like they're plumping up so there might be something salveagable. Wish me luck!

First off, Congrats! Those eggs don't look so bad. I'll bet they will plump up nicely. They take a good week to rehydrate usually. Sneaky devil that female of yours. I'd watch her around the boys.;)
Terri

Congratulations! I'm with Terri, the eggs don't look too bad at all :)

I was asked to incubate a couple of clutches last year for a friend and they were in a much worse state than those, all plumped back up and hatched successfully. It did take a week or two though, so don't give up on them unless they look like Jason's technicolour dreamcoat ;)

Good luck and best wishes,

Who's Jason? LOL

LOL! Good old Jason - what a classic.

It's right up there with those other Lloyd Webber musicals like Carts, Anita, Starbucks Express and Phantom of the Oprah. :)

Thanks for the support guys. The biggest strain now is resisting the temptation to pop the lid of the box and keep checking. Must. Keep. Humidity. Levels. Up....

Result!

My non-peeking patience has paid off. Voila! 16 plump 'n' juicy eggs, looking very good indeed.

Thanks for the support, folks.

Now I'll finally find out what the label on my "Normal Stripe/Motley het Amel" really meant... Stripe het Motley? Motley with a Stripe pattern? Watch this space in about 8 weeks' time....

Congratulations, we told ya :p

Good luck and I'll be looking forward to the pippy pics, I too want to see what your sneeky girl produces :)

Best wishes,

"Phantom of the Oprah"....

Oprah: 'On stage he sang to me, in aerobics class he came....he validated my lifestyle, and spoke my name......'

(sorry had to..actually, I think I have seen Oprah once in my life total, so this is going off of media awareness, not actual experience LOL. I am a Phantom Phanatic , though :))

->can you tell I am tired today?

Yeehar! They started pipping a couple of days ago on Day 64(ish) - Normal Stripes and Amel Stripes. Even a couple of eggs that had started to badly collapse over the last ten days.

Now I can't put my hand on my heart and say they're the prettiest Stripes I've ever seen; most seem quite dull and on some, the markings are so faint and broken that they're barely visible.

But after such a rocky start - they're a triumph!
