Hello, All! New to Herping :]

EmJagsz

cornscornscorns
Hello, my name is Michaela and I just bought my first corn snake on August 25! My new corn is just a plain ol' Regular Corn Snake whom I named EmJay Jagsz (my corn is a girl!). I'm not exactly sure of her age, but she is a little over 30cm and if anyone could give me a rough estimate of her age, I'd greatly appreciate it! :)
Anyway, I'll tell you more about my snake and where she lives.
Currently, I have her in a 10-gallon fish aqauriam complete with Plantation Soil substrate, a hidey house on each side of the tank, a water dish on the cool side, plants to hide in on each side of the tank, a heat pad under one side plus a 40watt SunGlo light on the same side, and a myriad of thermometers.
A day after I had brought my new corn home, I had noticed that her eyes were the infamous milky blue so she's already in a shedding cycle. On Wednesday, her eyes returned to normal so I'm guessing her actual shed isn't that far away.
The last time she ate was on August 22 and I had planned to feed her on September 1st. Though after reading that corn's sometimes lose their appetite during this time, I thought that I should wait until after she sheds to feed her. Can anyone give me a helping hand on this topic?

Thanks! and I'm glad to be part of this website :]
Here are a few pictures of EmJay on the first night I got her:

Any reason you were waiting so long to feed her? Most people feed babies every five days, or at the most every seven. Wait- you were waiting a week to let her settle in? Good! I'd stick with your original plan of September 1st.

Since she "cleared," she should be shedding any time. I'd go ahead and see if she wants to eat. She ought to be plenty hungry by now!

And she isn't a plain ol' normal, either, she has an aberrant pattern called zigzag!

*****I edited this after I noticed she was in the week settling in period.

Looks like you have a great set-up! Nanci answered your question already.

Oh, and I love your corn! She has the coolest head pattern for a classic I have ever seen!

Welcome Michaela!
I see you've already experienced the power of this website in action, or the power of Nanci.

I have that cave for my baby Samson too! My guy eats even when he's in blue, so I would try to feed EmJay and see if she eats.

On the eating while in shedding cycle topic. My little guy was recently in a shed cycle and I offered him food and he was more then willing to take it. So I think it just depends on the snake whether they will feed during shedding.

But that just a guess. I'm no expert :shrugs:

Thanks! Though EmJagsz finally shed tonight and I fed her a couple of hours after the shed. She took the pinkie without any problems and happily downed her meal :)

Hello and welcome to the forum! You have a gorgous snake and congrats on such a great new pet :0) I hope you have a thermometer with a probe in there along with that stick on thermometer..cause those stick on thermometers don't work at all...their very inaccurate...you can buy a thermometer with a probe at any petco or petsmart or even at a wal-mart...Hope you enjoy your stay here..there are a lot of people here with great knowledge to share :0)

Thanks for the welcome :) I think I'm going to enjoy it a lot here with all this excellent help and friendly people!

Oh, and don't worry. I do have a probe thermometer. If you take a look at the picture of the tank, on the right of the tank on the outside, you'll see the monitor where it shows the temps. I plan to get one for the cool side aswell.

Welcome to the forums! I'm glad that everything has gone without a hitch so far. I'm also glad that yours ate well. I just got through feeding a couple of mine (my fires), so I know all about that nervousness on whether they'll eat or not.

Your viv looks great too!

Congrats!
Fred

Welcome to the forum! Let's see how long it takes until you've got 2 corns...or three...or four... I've noticed this spreads like a disease. :D

I'm a newbie too, but I've already seen how great the forum is! :)

Welcome, and enjoy the forum. I'd say "enjoy your new hobby" but it sounds like you already are.
