SO....I was THRILLED to discover the genetics of Mr. Tango's father yesterday. His dad is an Ultramel Abbot's Okeetee het Sunkiss. How cool! Two questions:
1. If a clutch was conceived (not hatched) in April, would the babies be ready for sale by October / November of that year?
2. Tango is...
I adopted my boy Tango, who is approaching two years old, about two months ago. He was being fed "1 to 2 adult mice" a week by his previous owner. I believe his sire was a big Okeetee.
After researching and engaging in discussion online, I have determined that Tango is a bit on the chubby...
Like most snakes, Tango doesn't like to have his head touched. He becomes very jumpy if I accidentally bump his head or put my hand too close to it. This is normal behavior, but any recommendations as to how I could try to de-sensitize him? Thank you!
My avatar seems blurry and smaller compared to other members. I'm using Photoshop to resize to JPEG, so shouldn't be that bad. Does being a paid member increase your avatar allotment size?
As we have established, Tango is chubby and needs to lose weight. He was being *way* overfed by his previous owner; he is 1.5 years old and the last time I weighed him, he was 470 g. I have not fed him for two weeks, and his weight today was 468 g. Not much of a loss, although this is the first...
I was reading this really good blog article (http://snakesarelong.blogspot.com/2015/09/can-snakes-hear.html?m=1) but noticed it contradicted itself just a bit. At one point it said that snakes can "probably not hear human speech directly, " and later states, "the average human voice is around...
Tango just pooped ALL OVER me (at least I was outside!) My boyfriend was with me and just about died laughing (he loves snakes). I guess I'm an official corn owner now.
Tango is a normal ultramel. His previous owner said he was an Okeetee, which he is not (as I learned myself when I first joined...a common misconception about normals!). She also said his sire was a big Okeetee named Elvis (possibly true). This has me wondering...can could actually tell what...
Of course snakes are opportunistic eaters...I just fed Tango an adult mouse and after it went down the hatch....search search search around the feeding bin to see if there were any more. :face_palm_02: This made me wonder if anyone knows how often snakes are truly "hungry." In the wild, after...
...she weighs 79 grams! :eek1: She is supposed to be 3 years old in a month. She is so small that I am too scared to give her anything bigger than a fuzzy, but she will be going to a new home soon with someone who has owned / bred snakes for 30+ years, who will hopefully be able to get something...
My goofy boy literally "hanging out" of one hide into another. He likes to pretend he fits in the cork, even though he never gets all the way in. Notice his head peeking out the other end. He is literally just chilling like this! [emoji1]

Tango is one active boy when I take him out of his viv. He's obviously just getting to know me but is always looking for a nice, dark nook to hide in (this afternoon he tried to go into the couch cushions!) Do you think over time he will mellow out and just hang out on my arm, or are corns...
Tango weights a nice 456 grams. By Karl's "12%" calculation, he should eat a 2oz mouse. Karl said he feeds every 10-14 days; I've heard others say once a week. Opinions?
P.s. Tango is healthy, but I can juuuuust start to see where he might be forming hips. So I don't want to overfeed. He's an...
My big, beautiful boy has arrived! I adopted Tango yesterday from a wonderful woman who was re-homing her snakes because her boyfriend doesn't like snakes (I say...get a new boyfriend.) He was originally purchased from a breeder called Tom's Snakes (Tom Thompson - FB) at a reptile expo...
