Selecting mature snakes

Can cornsnakes sense earthquakes?
or am I going crazy? Yesterday at at about 10:45 am both of my snakes were out of their hides and moving pretty quickly. It almost seemed like they were panicking. I checked temp and humidity, and made sure the cats weren't in the room, but I couldn't find any reason for such odd behavior... -

Length of shed skin
Can the length of a shed skin be used as an estimate of how long snake is? I assume that the skin stretches some during it's removal, but how much on average? I'm curious 'cause my snake's last shed was 20 inches, and I'm not sure how else to get an accurate length measurement. Thanks, Kevin- KevinK

Gray on amels
My amel just shed this last weekend. I noticed that she now has a gray, "salt and pepper" coloration to some scales on both of her sides. She also has some gray scales on the backside of a few of her saddles. She's active and healthy, eats well, and her tank temp is 82-86 on the hot side...- KevinK
