I am new memeber from central Texas. We just bought our second corn snake, but the previous one was given to a teacher friend afetr I left teaching. I am going back into the classroom this fall after ten years. I think a snake is one of the best classroom pets out there. The one I had before was a standard corn, but my new one is a beautiful motley. The guys at the pet shop said this brood was 17 weeks old. I hope to get some pics soon, but I have tried to let her get used to her new digs before we start messing with it too much. I got her form a store in Austin, the guys there were great. They breed them in house, and the owner had a bunch that were in his own house. Right now we've got it in a 10 gal aquairium with a uth. I have one hide for her, but will soon add another. I had the reptile carpet in there for a couple days, but after much research here, I swithced it to the aspen bedding last night. She went right in and burrowed through. As it grows, I iwll eventaully switch it over to a 20 long. Of course, I will then have an empty cage?? I'm sure that won't last long. It has already eaten once, and pooed about 4 times. The kids loved watching it eat, and are fascinated when it comes for a drink. I will probably be posting here some more with questions, and lurking often. I have already picked up some great ideas. I'll be sure to post some pics in the classroom once I get it set up.

Welcome- Nice to see another Texan on here. I live outside College Station, TX! I've given many baby corns to teachers for classroom pets- the kids really do love them!

The class I taught before was at a low socio econimic school. Kids there had not seen anything but cats and dogs, so anything was cool to them. I had a couple girls that were scared to death at the start of the year, but by the end they would take it out and handle it. I took some pics of them. It felt great opening up new doors to them. I look forward to that again.
