Nick made incubator

HazAnga

Corn's + Garters
Well I know I'm not going to be breeding this year... but I was bored and I threw together my incubator for next year.
It consists of;
- Styrofoam box
- Flexwatt heat tape
- 3.5" computer fan
- small computer power supply
- Hydrofarm Digital Thermostat

I will be using a SIM container as my egg container. I was thinking of using wood blocks to stand the SIM container from the bottom of the box but thought against that as they would suck up any moisture in the air. I'll be finding myself a couple bricks or blocks.

So how I put the thing together is fairly simple.
I soldered wires to the heat tape and then foil taped them to the bottom of the Styrofoam box. I attached a 3.5" computer fan to the side of the box (I had to end up melting 2 holes in the side and use some of the electrical wire i had to keep it on the side, glue wouldn't work). I connected the fan to the computer power supply and also finished wiring up the heat tape. I melted another hole in the top of the lid so that i can hang the probe from the thermostat. I plugged the heat tape into the thermostat turned on the pc power supply and set the thermostat to 85 F. Everything seems to be going well so far.
Here's the pix i took of my process.

Here's the heat tape being foil taped down

Some of you know how the SIM containers work but some do not, from my understanding the eggs get suspended above your substrate allowing 360 degrees of air circulation. It also allows equal heat and humidity for the eggs.
I'm pretty sure this setup will and should work perfectly fine, but if anyone thinks differently or has an idea as to how i can change/make better please let me know.

Thanks All

That looks like an awesome idea. I wish I had a few SIM containers, I have extra computer stuff laying around, and could set up the fan stuff no problem. I just need to order the flex watt, which I will be getting anyway...lol
This is a great idea though. I like it.

yeah, I kinda grabbed ideas from posts here and books and from my old boss. He used a styrofoam box and heat pad with the repti heat or w/e it is called, he uses a digital thermometer and then the sandwhich container or a shoebox container with vermiculite in it. I did the same sorta thing except used heat tape (which i had extra from my stack i built) The fan i had from when i set fans on top of the cages to git some air circulation for a couple hours every few nights. I do plan on getting a thermometer/hygrometer combo at the near reptile expo only a couple hours away from me on the 6th of March, they have good deals, I also plan on finding myself a nice Anery hopefully.

a little over an hour running and she seems to be averaging that 85F that I'm looking for, but lowest that it drops is to about 83 and the highest is just under 88... seems fine so far.
