"I Love It When You Get Rough!"

Susan

Go Ahead, Make My Day!
I see these love bites happen about once every few years. The females never seem to really mind it and don't have any issues later on.

This is Honey Bear (normal het sulfur) and Sugar Bear (hypo het caramel bloodred). I gave her the past 2 years off and decided to breed her again this year. He's become a very sporadic feeder over the past couple of years, dropping weight during breeding season (he absolutely refuses to eat and I have to force a meal down him every so often over that 4-5 month period) and never quite putting it all back on like he should over the winter. I have no idea how old either of them are as I got them as surplus breeders from Rich years ago.

That's funny. He looks so adorable, even though he's biting her. I wonder if they have a safe word.

I had this happen to me this season.. except that the male was biting the female's head. They weren't hooked up yet so I immediately separated them as soon as I saw what was going on. The female's head was fine, and she ended up laying her eggs without any subsequent matings.

Head biting is my limit! The male was cut off after that. Poor girl, we hadn't even discussed "safe words".
