Decorative lid weight

Before I met my husband I used various things to keep screen lids closed. He's the artistic one though, and he decided to surprise me with flower pot lid weights. This is actually the newest one we made, don't have any good photos of the others.

The flowerpot is filled with pea pebbles and the fake flowers are just cheap ones from Walmart. Works great to hold the lids down for the wee snakes, never had an escape with them unless I forgot to replace them.

What a cute idea - thanks! It looks like you have the heavier-duty "cat screen" instead of the regular mesh screen lid. Is that correct? I use the cat screen, too, but with locking pins rather than weights. I like the flower look, though, hmmm... might have to try some roses and ivy on mine.

Love the idea! My two paver blocks and the light aren't all that attractive.

Looks lovely...but weights for snake containment instead of locks of some type, make me very nervous. Heard too many stories of escapes when just using weights...plus I'm paranoid...

Your absolutely right. With 4 clamps, two massive cans and two potted plants, our lil Houdini still manages to escape our 90gal.

I made the mistake to allow a Petsmart employee to help me with my first ever snake set-up. Big mistake. A few hundred down the drain....I've now learned my lesson, and currently researching a DIY viv project (escape proof).

My 20 gallon has six four paws screen clips, metal zilla screen cover and a mdx board on top to keep my cats from potentially breaking through the screen. I know if he gets out my cats will get him.

I wanted to add, these are for the babies! Once they start looking crowded in a 10gal, to the rack they go and I have never had a baby escape with a flowerpot weight.

I definitely wouldn't be trusting a lid weight alone, but you've given me inspiration!

I'll be buying some more vines and greenery to decorate the lid for sure!

there are gaps between the plywood for venting. and this is only a temporary situation until I find a better way. when I do figure out a better way I will post it here for you guys.

I just secured my tank after reading this thread. I used some "all round" plumbing strapping. Two bands around the outside of the tank and a couple loops to throw a small bar through over the top door. I don't think Ginger will get out of that.
