And the oh so critical wound..

Yes, tonight was feeding night. And no, he wasn't even on the same side of the room as the tub of mice. I even thought I was doing good and went to wash my hands before picking him up. Guess I'll try a different brand of soap next time...

Aye, he did.

I tried waving a fuzzy mouse in front of him, but the smell just made him clamp down even harder. So I'll know not to use food as bribery next time this happens.

Next I tried a squirt bottle with water, he loosened a little, but then redoubled his efforts and started to chew, rather than just latch on.

So after 5 mins of waiting for him to give up, I went and played "Dunk the Clown" in the sink. A couple of passes under cold tap water and he dropped off.

Then I had another problem on my hands, how to get him out of the sink and into his tub without getting latched onto again cause he was trying every time I'd make a grab for him. So I waved the fuzzy in front of him in the sink, and when he latched on and constricted, I picked him and the mouse up and placed them in the tub.

Sheesh, all for the fun of wrestling with your food..

I've read that a drop of alcohol (no, not rubbing alcohol) on their mouth will get an instant release.

OMG!!!! he has got to be related to my Cal King (blk/wh banded)... they even have the same taste in meat.... LOL

Just last week mine latched on to the flesh between my thumb and fore- finger... I like to have never got him off... this has become a common occurance with "Elvis", usually he will strike - hit and release after he realises I am too big to swallow...

but this time I must have smelled tastier than usual because he clamped on and would not let loose... I slid my finger nail under his top jaw to release his grip, it worked for a split-second then "chomp" he took an even bigger bite... finally after about 10 minutes of him trying to swallow my arm I stuck him under running water -- he let go very quickly!

after all that he still didn't break the skin enough to make my hand bleed...*I never manage to take pictures though* I guess it's kind of hard to push the SHTR button with a snake attached to your hand... lol

I think it's a kingsnake thing! I had one try to eat the palm of my hand.....maybe he was drunk already!

Yeah, I used to muddle that up to but I figured out that the idea is to get them eating OUT of the palm of your hand...not actually eating the palm of your hand!

Kingsnake

I have two kingsnakes that have bitten and will do it again in the future. When they are young and small it's almost cute and endearing. It stops being cute the bigger they get. Neither one of them mistook me for food. They bit me because they are ornery. My corn snake has never shown any inclination bite. I have been bitten by one python and my boa. In their cases they did think I was food. Think about it, fingers look a lot like pinky/fuzzy rats.

Got gnawed on by a very pretty juvenile red racer I caught in the arena yesterday. Once it calmed down it was fine, but it sure made a go of trying to injest my entire hand. It was so small though, that it didn't leave a mark. Poor thing....tried so hard too!

Yup, my Cal King has done the same thing to me, too.
