Trying to get out?

I recently purchased my first corn snake, or any snake of that matter. (S)He is really great but I do have some concerns. My corn snake, which I named Julio, uses various items (hide boxes, temperature guages, etc.) to get up to the screen. There is a little ledge below the screen which he goes into and seems as if he is trying to pop open the screen. I will try and get a picture of him up in this spot, but until I do does anyone have any suggestions? Is it normal for him to climb into places like that? I really don't want him getting out. Thanks

dont worry this is very normal behaviour for corns, especially babies!
and make sure that lid is tight and very secure, they can squeeze through the smallest spaces!!!

my normal was doing it tonight... and i got some pictures... she uses the thermostat probe and an ivy plant to climp to the top...

Yep, perfectly normal place for a corn to hang out

Just make sure that you have the lid properly secured and your lil' corn should be fine.

Here is a pic of my Amel in late Aug of 05 doing just what you describe ;)

Yep, all normal :) Remember, it's not like they can distinguish between 'this is my viv' and 'this is everything else'. They'll keep exploring the boundaries just in case there's something they overlooked that may be hiding food/interesting smell/another snake. We owners don't help matters by constantly changing the smells and looks of the viv, they probably think they are somewhere different every time we take them out and replace them! Just make sure your viv is secure against more pressure than you would think your snake could produce, they are stronger than we give them credit for.

my corn is definately like that, and my ball python spens 100% of his awake hours trying to get out, so dont be worried

lol my ball must have been totally out of charater then it never bothered trying to escape it just sat curled up on its ledge and cruised around the tank a bit when it felt like it.

That's not normal. There must be something terribly wrong with your snake.:grin01:

I've had to baby proof one of my fav snakes cage cause she does the same thing and always followed by a THUD and she always looks up as if saying "you didn't see that". I'll post a pic next time she does it which will be in a couple of hours :crazy02:

My baby corn does exactly the same thing. Infact he's hanging there right now. He's always bunching his body up to try and push the lid off. Very clever animals. :grin01:
