New Incubator

rockmonky

I'm normally impaired
I finally finished my incubator just in time, I should have eggs in less than a week!! :crazy02:
I got the Mini fridge for $20 from the furniture store across the street.
As always I went over board, I made all new shelfs that fit two shoe box tubs per shelf or four smaller food containers.
It has a fan at the top and runs air over a heat pad to the bottom then each shelf is stagered so the air runs over every box.
I am running a Helix for heat control.
I had to add a little of my own style with the flames.

Looks good! Now get that thing started so you can make sure it holds the proper temps before you find yourself with eggs and an incubator that fluctuates too much or cooks them. I had that problem the first year I raised chameleons. Hubby made his own incubator and assumed it would be perfect. Started it the evening before our first clutch, it went to the proper temp over-night, we put the eggs in, then the temp rose some more during the day before the thermostat turned it off, even though it read 85 F. There was a time lag in the set up and it took us awhile to figure out what the settings really had to be to maintain the temps where we wanted them. We lost the first clutch, but everything else went fine afterwards. I don't use an incubator for my corns. The room temp in my snake room is at the perfect temps to incubate eggs, so I simply put them on the shelf.

nice Tim~
But do like Susan says~ I had a lot of trouble calibrating the one I made last year out of an ice chest. Play with it for a while with egg containers filled with moist vermiculite but no eggs. Be sure to play with it with more and less containers inside so you can see if it makes a difference or not.

Nice looking though~ I like the flames!

Thanks every one!!
I have been playing with it for a couple of days now, I will be 100% sure that its holding temps right, before I put any eggs in it.
I need to go to walmart and get more tubs to totaly fill it and check temps with it full, since I really hope it will be full this year

Thanks TIM

Congrats Dude.. I hope things work out for you with this one.. I am going to try using an ice cooler this year.. Ghettoed out... :crazy02:

Regards... Tim of T and J

Liter bottles filled with water laid down on the bottom will help keep the temps stabilized as they act as a heat sink.
