hatchling/hateling

people...is there any difference between a hatchling, and a hateling? i thought "hateling" was a typo at first, but i've seen it used over and over and over again!

what's the deal?

hateling is a new word for me. I have never seen or heard it before.

Lets think about it for a minute and see if we can't come up with a good definition for it.

It's kind of a joke.. someone typed it by mistake the first time but some of the little ones are very feisty so it stuck, I guess... If yours rattles its tail and does a good cobra impersonation, it's a "Hateling" ;)

Here's an example of a Hateling!

Bloodreds are often Hatelings. So cute!

This is Jasmine from Carol Huddleston. She used to be a hateling, but she's almost gotten over it.

I stand corrected. I love hatelings, I guess that is why the word didn't click for me. I love it when one of the little guys stands up and acts tough.

One of my most hateful "hatelings" ever (Ursula, '06 Ultra-Caramel):

does any think it seems like girls are more apt to be "hatelings" than boys?

I have 4 boys and 1 girl and she is the only one to have bitten me and the only tail rattler.....

and i've noticed alot of the snakes people post that seem like hatelings have girl names.....

I've wondered that, too. I have six babies- four girls and two boys. Jasper is just a lover. New boy Pepper is the only one of three new babies yesterday that relaxed and crawled around my hand. The two bloodred girls are definite Hatelings. Lily will still take a strike at me when I get her out, but then she settles down. Calli seemed to be more of a tail rattler- I can't pass judgement on her yet.

That is a redundant question. Of course the girls are more hateful than the boys.
