Living Plants??

tstephe3

Wanna pet my Snake?
Hi,
so i was thinking about getting some live plants in my vivs for my guys. a friend of mine keeps live in his cobalts frogs tanks and has to trim them down and he said if you put them in water they will grow roots then i can take some from him. his roomate is going to be putting some in his cages for his ball, and king as well..

so i guess i was just asking the advantages, some of the bad things and such.. thanks for any info ahead of time!

Your snakes will squash them flat. Try it on a limited scale before you put a lot of effort into it.

thanks.. they are kinda big. so i will try some and see if it works well. hopefully it does

I've got a bonsai tree and living ivy in my tank.

Its fine aslong as you keep the pot size to a minimum (Soil is able to breed fungus and bacteria.)

The plants will also raise your humidity a little (About 15-20% in mine.) because of the water held in the soil.

Aslong as your prepared to water them regulary, keep them trimmed and check and replace soil regular you'll be fine. Investigate the plants online first though to make sure they're perfectly safe to use near the snake.

My tank.

ok.. yeah thanks i will probably find out what kind of plant it is tonight when i see them. and ill research it. thank you!

I had this one plant in Star's viv but Stephen told me that I should take it out because it may have pesticides in it??? But I got it from the Columbus Reptile show and they guy said that it is safe to put in with a corn snake, and I asked Kathy, and she said it should be ok, and there were bugs in the d soil and plant when I got it so??? Also I got an orchid, are orchids and this other plant ok for corns???

Here is the orchid, not bloomed yet, the guy said that it sould bloom in the summer :)

Oh, I never actually told you what I wanted lol, are those plants safe for Star??? Star is my baby corn snake for those of you who didn't know lol :)

well if there are bugs in it, i dont think it would be safe.. and as for pesticides and fertilizer, those are bad for the snake as well.. im going to use pure top soil in a little pot and just water it.

Hunter, the requirements for an Orchid are to0 extreme for your corn snake. Orchids are higher heat and high humidity plants so they will not do well in a Corn snake environment.
You can keep plants with your snakes, I just wouldn't do it. It just makes clean up day really messy and a pain. Most people are bad at day to day Husbandry of their snakes. So I would suggest just avoiding it all together.
If you want plants, i suggest just getting Silk plants at a Craft store. They can take the abuse and you will not have to worry about pests in the plants or worry about lighting or watering of your plants as well. The best part, Silk plants don't die.
