Chocolate corns??

Ronda

In Daytona last weekend, I saw a few tables with "chocolate corns." As busy as the vendors were, I never asked for the history behind them. Does anyone know? I saw chocolate corns in the Kingsnake classifieds this morning too. ?? If I remember correctly, they look like normals.

Thanks!

Good question...........

I'd like to know too!

Oh, by the way Ronda, did you pick up anything interesting at Daytona? What else did you see that was interesting?

I think it was Ben Seigel Reptiles who posted the chocolate corn ad, so I wrote to him last night asking about the origins of the name/color. I haven't heard back yet, but will fill everyone in when he replies.

I saw lots of great stuff in Daytona, and you know... I had my camera in my backpack and never once took it out. Shame on me! I saw striped lavenders, pink motleys (looked like an anery motley but with super pink blotches)... That's what sticks in my head at the moment. There were also lots of hybrids -- corns crossed with various Lampropeltis. Saw several very cool Asian ratsnakes.

As for me... When I first walked up to Rich's table, his helper was holding a Miami corn and saying "We need to show this one to Don!" Sorry Don, that snake was in my bag moments later. I'll post photos soon. I also picked up a creamsicle to replace my dud of a female (she's an '00 that laid one egg last year and none this year -- is it too early to call her a "dud"?)

Those were the only two corns I bought, as my sale order from Rich was expected this week. I did pick up some non-corns though.

Dud?..........

Boy, that's a tough call. I'd be tempted to give her one more year but that would be it!

Non-corns huh?

Did you get any Womas? Did you see any there?

I always thought that chocolate corns were what lavenders were called before they became known as lavenders..???..??? :?

I believe they are a cross

Ben Seigal reps had the same looking snakes for sale at this time last year and they were black rat x corn snakes,a local shop has some of these too. They are quite cute and I would like one, but...were to put it.

Chocolate corns and womas

Hmmm... Interesting about the obsoleta x guttata cross. I hadn't thought of that. I did email Ben Seigel about them two days ago, and have yet to receive a response.

Yes, there were lots of womas at the show. Lots of dark womas. I know they start out dark and lighten up, but its hard to fork out that much money unless you *know* that they'll end up nice. Anyway, we did find a pair that was a little bigger and much lighter (and a little more expensive). Its apparent they will be stunning as adults. So yes, we now have womas and Marc is one very happy reptile-keeper!

The other non-corns we got included a pair of licorice rats (white-sided black rats) and a pair of red bulls. Here is the female red bull:

I tried to snap a photo of the Miami corn I purchased from Rich, but the little fart wouldn't cooperate. I'll keep working on it.

great shot of the red bull!!

I want pics of the womas.....I loved womas a long time ago....just no money to get any of those....they're like $4000CND a pair or something like that.....too poor.....sigh.....

Ronda,
Great looking Bull! I picked up a pair of albino whitesided bulls last year. I was at the show but I must have overlooked the "Chocolate Corns". Here is something else to ponder. Last year I outcrossed one of Don S. Banded Corns to a wild caught corn. most of the offspring were normal, however I also hatched out what appears to be 1 hypo banded 1 miami phase and 2 anerys. As the anerys grew older and the yellow began to show the black turned to brown. I still refer to them as Anerys but the name Chocolate Corn could easily apply. Here is a current picture.
