hello all

Hi, im jeremy. Ive been interested in snakes ever since i was very younge but my mom always hated them so i could never enjoy thier company. LUCKY ME i have a girlfriend who loves snakes and so does her father so i can keep one there(im there more than im home anyways). Ill be upfront about it...Ive had 2 ball pythons but both went horribly wrong. The first one i was nieve and bought a 3 foot long ball convinced it was a baby. Horrible mistake, found out 6 months later that it was straight off the plane from africa, YAY ME... needless to say it didnt eat once in the 7 months i had it. Well, i figured i go for a second round as having 'Buddy' only made me love snakes that much more so i got a nice hatchling at petco(what was i thinking) and all was good for a month. He at at least once a week and i was so happy the first time he took down the food. By the end of the first month he had passed(im still not sure why though, i think he had someone from the pet store). I saw no mites his scales were great nose and mouth looked good... This threw me off snakes for a few months but ive decided that i cant let it ruin a good thing and i sparked an interest in corns...specifically anery corns, i think they look amazing. I came across this site a few days ago, have been reading alot in the forums and am even more excited for a new family memeber(read:not pet).

sorry for that wall of text but thats what im here for HAHA, plus my grammer and spelling has always sucked.

i have a question but im not sure where to post it....so ill ask right here and if someone could answer or tell me a good place to post it id greatly appreciate it.

i saw a great little anery corn at persmart the next town over and he seemed good. The women i talked to seemed very knowledgable which everyother person i talked to was not. She said he eats twice a week(is that too much, i read 5-7 days) and that he hasnt turned down food yet. His scales, nose, mouth, eyes all looked good and the habitat looked clean. I asked where they get there snakes and she said all reptile they sell and alot of the other animals come from lasko breeders. I googled it and nothing came up. It seems a little sketchy that ive never heard of it and if half the pets in the store come from there i wonder if its a bit of a 'mill'. Would it be wise to look for a breeder in my area instead?

thanks again

Hey Jeremy! Welcome to the forum! Pet store snakes are not all that bad. I have a few of them myself (Petco). I would be very leery of a pet store that recommended feeding multiple times in a week. You are right to point out that feeding a baby snake, should only be done every 5-7 days. Even less often, when you are dealing with an adult.

I seem to think that this person you are talking to, at PetSmart, is trying to come across as knowing a lot about reptiles, when that may not be the case.

There are many quality breeders on this forum and on FaunaClassifieds.com. I would start checking them out and then do a search for them on the BOI (Located at FaunaClassifieds.com) so you can check their reputation. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We like them.

Good Luck

Wayne
