Hey Guys, Girls

oculus

New member
Hi, I am a new pround owner of a corn snake since yesterday afternoon.

My name is matt and my snakes name is oculus. He is still a baby only about 10 inches long. Im not sure exactly what type of corn he is but he sure is cute.

Also I do not know what sex he is but for me he is male :D

Im new to snakes in the sense of owning one but I have always had a slight passion for snakes especially corn snakes. I handled my first snake (corn snake) probably at the age of 4 and since then I've wanted one. Yesterday was the day my dream came true :p

Any beginner tips I might need?

Handling wise, how often should i handle him for him to remain tame and "harmless"?

Thats about it from me for the time being :p

Forgot some pictures :D

Here is him just relaxing on my hand:

Congrats on getting Oculus, he looks like an amel (amelanistic) corn from what I can see. Welcome to the site!

Welcome to the forum Matt. Congrats on little Oculus - he does indeed look like an amel. Check out the husbandry forum for tips on basic housing and care. There's a great DIY (Do It Yourself) sub-forum here as well with tons of amazing ideas. A great guideline for feeding is the Munson Plan. Leave your little guy alone for about 48 hours post feeding, otherwise you can handle him daily to get him used to it. Don't hesitate to ask any question as there are a lot of knowledgable and experienced members here willing to help out. Good luck and have fun with your new friend.

Hey Matt, more welcomes for you.
We have our snake out a few times a week sometimes, sometimes only once a week. I think as long as you and your actions remain a "known non-threat" your snake accepts handling well.
I've also seen posts that show some snakes never do accept handling well. I hope you don't have one of them, by the pic he looks pretty tame.
