Hi,

I just joined this forum tonight though I have been lurking for awhile. Found some EXCELLENT advice. This site was recommended by our corn snake breeder that we bought Jackie (our baby corn) from. I have to say that my husband is deathly afraid of snakes, but even he has held our baby! :) I will post photos of Jackie on a later date.

Any snake advice would be great! Thanks!

Jessica

Welcome to the forum!
I bet you would enjoy every moment of this site,
gives out great advices...even when I bought my corn snake,
and I was having hard time trying to get a proper care for him.
After, I found this site, I know almost everything about corn snake now.
Excellent site.

Howdy! Nice to have another Texan on the Forum! (Even though I'm originally from England!)

Born in Portsmouth (Dad was in the Navy), but my family is from the Newmarket area (near Cambridge). Came here due to divorce/remarriage (my Mum's) in 1969 when I was 11.

Ah, I was a navy brat myself! LOL But here in the states. I have always wanted to go to England. There is a Fell Pony breeder here in Texas. Absolutely gorgeous horses!

Oh, PLEASE don't tell Lesley about horses! Especially one that combines horses and England! I'd be doomed!

But seriously, folks, Howdy! Welcome! If you ever make it down to the People's Republic, give us a holler and come see our zoo!

:) You must be her husband! LOL Well, if she is interested, there is one of the largest Fell Pony breeders in the USA right here in Texas (Denison).

I judged a show that they came to. First time I ever saw a Fell Pony, and I fell in love! They had a stud there that was much better behaved than 90% of the QH and paint geldings! LOL

If I am ever in Austin, I'll look you up! :) Do y'all breed?

Yup, Lesley is my much-better half.

We're headed toward breeding corn snakes, yes. Lesley has bred all sorts of critters; about all I've ever bred is various kinds of tropical fish, and you really can't help breeding if you have more than one fish! We're in the process of stocking our stable and developing breeding plans. We're hoping to make some money from it long term, but if not, it'll be fascinating and give our daughter science fair fodder for years. We have a trio I hope to breed next season - normal looking with lots of hets - and (as of this morning) 19 other various cultivars to mess with starting the year after.

We'll have to come up and see those Fell Ponies, in all seriousness. We're going to buy a house summer-after-next, and plan to get it on some serious land, so there'll be space for a horse or three. I'd never heard of them until I googled them a few minutes ago.

LOL, Lesley sounds great! I have always preferred animals to people and have bred (show) dogs and horses (all other animals were fixed). I guess that is why my parents would only allow us ONE fish. Smart people. I wouldn't know what to do with a tank full of baby fish! So you have 22 snakes. My hubby would have a heart attack. He is doing well with Jackie, but he has a major phobia of snakes. I took her out one day when he was home as he hadn't seen her outside the cage, and he locked himself inside his truck. LOL We have managed to get him to hold her, and now he is wanting another one too. :) Do you just have corns?

We just sold our two horses, both Appendix QHs. No land and boarding can be very expensive. Hopefully, as we are both "country folks", we will be back out on land soon! Yes, the Fell Ponies are gorgeous, and the people there in Denison are very nice and knowledgeable about the breed. How old is your daughter?

Rachel will be 13 next Wednesday. A (gasp) teenager! So I am a full-time stepmom, except for the weekends when she is with her mother.

I'll have to look up the Fell ponies. I used to subscribe to a Shire horse newsletter, that was sponsored by a paint company for some reason, because I can remember seeing Shire horses when I was growing up. Newmarket is a thoroughbred racing town...lots of studs (stables) and a famous race course. The National Stud is located just outside town, and it's a great place to tour.

I used to breed and show Pharaoh Hounds, and have owned and/or showed Afghans, Borzoi, Irish Wolfhounds, and Greyhounds. Don't do that anymore, too much politics, even for the rarer breeds! What did you show?

AGH!!!!!!!! A teenager!!! My eldest just turned 11, and he can stop RIGHT THERE!! I don't want to deal with the hormones! :crazy01: You are a brave woman!

Shires are gorgeous. My second favorite breed is a Fresian (fav being APHA paints), and the Fell Pony looks just like a mini Fresian in look and carriage. I went to college for horses, and they had both standarbred racing and TB racing there! :)

I use to breed and show Shih Tzus and GSDs (German bred NOT American..ugh). The GERMAN GSDs do not do well in the AKC conformation class, but do great in the other areas. Yes, the politics in dogs and horses are CRAZY! I thought dogs would be easier, but it just gets to you after awhile. Esp when one lady who shows (and lives 25 minutes from me) was making fun of my autistic son just to get to me in the ring. :fullauto:

Do you still have any of your Pharaoh Hounds??? I don't think I have ever seen a Borzoi. Going to have to look that up! Ok, they remind me of the Pharaohs but with hair! :) Irish Wolfhounds are amazing dogs, but they are HUGE!!! :)
