Hello from the Pacific Northwest

Hi :). Online I go by the name "Irish". My husband goes by "Zwack", or simply "Z". We just got our first pet snake; The Okeetee color phase, "Rebecca", sold to us by Jadie.Glitch. What a beauty!

We have changed Rebecca's name to "Fiesta". Apparently, 'Becca is actually a boy, and we couldn't have him going around with such a girlie-girl name, could we? So, with his bright, "Mexican pottery" colors, I've chosen this name for him, with Jadie.Glitch's blessings.

I have spent the past couple of days perusing this forum for the information I need to keep Fiesta happy and healthy. I hope we have the basics down correctly, but I'm sure I will have about a zillion questions as the days go by. I'll try to find the answers, here. Looks like I have a good chance, especially once I figure out what all those numbers (1.1, 0.2, etc.) that people keep using mean :).

We live on the green side of the Cascade range, within a 2 hour drive of the coast that I love so well. We share our home with dogs (Border Collies and Pomeranians), a 55 gallon freshwater aquarium, and several large parrots. We also have 3 grown children, who live in their own homes. I am a retired Special Ed teacher who gave it up after 5 years and chose to become a dog and parrot slave, instead. Z is a senior-level Unix SysAdmin/Engineer and Subject Matter Expert. He works for a large, regional non-profit, and enjoys his job. For fun, we both like to travel. Z likes leather-working, and my passion is photography, among other things.

I'm sure that you now know more about us than you ever needed or wanted to :). We're happy to be here. Thank you for welcoming us into your world.

Wow, what a nice introductory post!

Good luck!

Use your photography skills to snap pictures of your cute new snake!

Fiesta is such a great name, have a great weekend :).

Thank you :). Once Fiesta is settled in, I'll be getting photographs of him, for sure! In the mean time, I think that Jadie.Glitch has ads, with pix, up here in the corn snakes for sale section, if you want to see him. I have not asked for permission to use her photos, so I won't post them in this thread.

Yea!! More people in the Pac NW!! I'm in Tacoma. I should have a booth at the Captive Breeders' Expo in October. Hooray on your first (of many) snakes. Can't wait to see pics of Fiesta.

Dionythcus, love the hearse! Z works with someone who has one. They have some sort of party/decor business on the side, and the owners use it for that. I love its custom plates: "UR NEXT" :).

As for more snakes--who knows? Depends on how we do with this guy, I'm thinkin'. Certainly, they're less messy and lower maintenance than the flock o'macaws who live here!

You're lucky. Grants Pass is one of the prettiest little cities I've ever seen. If Z's work had facilities there, I'd be happy to live in the area. I love it!

It is so nice to see so many snake loving people up in this area! I too, am relatively new to these forums but welcome.
If any of you 'NorthWesterly' people have children or grandchildren that are interested in reptiles, my son and I have a reptile 4H club we are starting this year & it would be awesome to have some new kids, or maybe just another snake owner to come speak to the kids sometime.
Corn snakes are our project, not only for a slight income for the kids but also for small herping field trips and vivarium visits.

Oh and yes, I too think the Pacific Northwest (especially Grants Pass area) is so beautiful.

You do? Nice! I need to check you out next year! Whats your booth called. I go to the seattle metro reptile expo and the northwest captive breeders expo. When I get my breeding going I would love to set up a booth!

Welcome Irish Eyes. I really hope you enjoy it here. I know I sure do. Everyone around here has been really great answering any questions I may have. Keep in mind we'd love to do the same for you :). I can't wait to see some pictures of your new boy.
All the best,
Amanda

Hi there and Welcome :D I also got a new snakie from Jadie, she was the little no name normal. We love her already but I am still working on a name for her. I love Oregon, not so much the rain though lol Glad that you already enjoy this site, we need to start a Pacific North West group on here if there isn't one? :D

Thank you for the welcome! You have all been very kind, and I appreciate it. I never thought I'd have a pet snake. I'm a dog person with birds, after all.... Now I'm a dog person with birds and a BEAUTIFUL snake. It was love at first sight :).

He ate his two mice this morning, and he's been curled up in a hidey-hole since. I won't mess with him, but once he's digested his meal, I'm going to try to get some decent photos of him. It could be tricky--except for after his meal, he never seems to want to hold still :). Still 'n' all, once he's feeling empty and energetic again, I'll bet he'd look pretty among the daffodils in my front yard!

Welcome to the forum, Mrs. Z! I think you will really enjoy having a corn snake. They are wonderful pets! :)

It's nice to hear that another reptile 4-H club is coming together in our area. There seem to be so few of them. We also have one in Bend, and it is a lot of fun for the kids.... and moms like me, who are into reptiles!
