Snake-safe deodorizer

Carinata

Ever Evolving Exotics
My family complains that the snake room stinks sometimes and I want to find a way to de-odorize it. I have tried baking soda and stuff but it doesn't really work. I don't smell anything but I want to know if there is some way to shut them up:cool:

I do clean the cages. Once a week I pull out everything, scrub the water dish, spray chlorhexidine, and replace paper. I usually have less smell if I use aspen? I may try that again.

I see you have some garters, the garters that I had needed cleaning more than once a week if I used the reptile carpet. They were poop machines! The aspen did cut down the smell, especially if it was spot cleaned when there is a special gift from the slithering serpents.

The garters are'nt to bad. They are small right now. I think I am goingt o have to go back to aspen and cypress.

I use aspen and really like it. I tried the cypress and it stunk so we changed all the tanks after the first night and threw it all away.

i used some carefresh once and that helped the smell a little better than the aspen, but i dont like it as much as aspen
i initially really didnt want to use aspen, i didnt want the snakes hiding where there wasnt a hide, but i gave into them
aspen seems to work better than do most other substrates, for the smell dept at my house
if your garters are anything like mine were, they will get stinky and poop everywhere
they seem to be like little mice and just constantly drip poop out their stinky little bums, small little turds everywhere

Well what I will do is try aspen again or cypress depending on where we go tonite. Can I use febreeze or something like that?

There's a deodorizer/sanitizer that Natural Chemistry makes called Healthy Habitat. It seems to work well for me. :shrugs: It's all natural, and supposed to be used with reptiles and small animals.

If you need a scent masker that is safe, try rose oil from the health food store. Don't get the chemical stuff, get the real stuff. It is considered to be very safe.

Edit: I would go back to aspen for as many snakes as possible, although I realize you have babies etc who maybe should be on paper. I wonder if paper run thru a cross cut shredder would be better in terms of odor control?

Can someone send me some Healthy Habitat accross the pond! I've looked everywhere to find it over here. My snakes don't smell... the mooses do! No matter how many times I completely clean their cages out per week.

Elle, if you can find me Nestle Truffon bars, I promise I will buy some Healthy Habitat & ship it to you!

Truffon bars? I have never heard of them in my puff! I'll search though lol.

Are you sure thats what they are called? Have you had them before?

Elle, I may be a little off on the spelling, but that's close, and yes, somebody brought them back from across the pond years ago & I would almost sell my soul for more of them. I would CERTAINLY ship you this good stuff!
