Buttons the boa intro~ Finally!

What addiction?!
Finally, I get to introduce this little girl. This pretty little girl was sent to me in January as part of a trade deal with "Ali". :)

Woes and worries:
Buttons came out of the shipping box very cold, yes a heat pack was included. An unexpected winter front caused the temps to drop below what was expected when we shipped. The other snakes in the box, corns, were all just fine. Buttons belly was sunk in and felt like one of those Ice-Pops you give your kids in the summer. You know how when they start to thaw out it's like a slushy? That's how she felt. After a couple days her belly bloated and I became very concerned. She refused to eat but Ali could only get her to eat a live mice once every couple of weeks. So I was expecting that. When she did slither is was slow and the back half of her didn't seem to want to move. She didn't do much tongue flicking either. So I had her "swim" once every couple days for about 10 minutes. Other than her swim she wasn't handled. Her heat was kept high and I gave her antibiotics as a precaution. She was also treated for internal parasites and given nutribac in her water. In other words, I tried to cover all the basis. After about 3 weeks the bloating started to subsided and she finally made a small poo for me. I was never so excited to see poop in my life. LOL After that I offered her a small f/t mouse hopper. I did it where she couldn't see me by dangling the mouse over the edge of their tote with the lid still on just cracked. To my surprise she took it. I've been offering her f/t rats, not mice, every 5 days now and she's never missed a meal. She has shed for the 3rd time since Jan. I'm so proud of this little girl. :)

January when she arrived. First pic she doesn't look that bad but the caved part is in that last curve before her tail. I included a picture of her belly to show how the ribs were showing from her stomach being caved in. Wish I could have gotten better shots.

March- 2 months later. What a change she's made. (That's paper towel on her neck not shed.)

Beautiful! I'm glad everything turned out well in the end.

Thank you!

Very nice! Salmon, I wager?
Poss super?

Thanks! I was told she's a hypo. But I think like you. She looks super to me. I'm not sure where Ali got her and if it was from a show there's not telling what she is. Could be she was difficult to feed so the breeder sold her to get rid of her. Either way, she eats just fine for me now. :)

Salmon being a line of Hypo... I wasn't off...
As for the Super... well, let me tell you from personal experience- It is nigh -impossible- to know if a Salmon is Super or not...

Around a year ago, Phoenix was produced- he is possibly the cleanest Boa ever produced by Alon(the breeder with whom I work)- and he is beyond a shadow of a doubt just het for the trait.

Out of the clutch of Sunsets and Sunset crosses- one which we were certain was a sunset cross(Hog Hypo slamon, not super) proved to be Super as all of his young were Salmons- he is heavily speckled and very dark...

These experiences have showed us that in high quality stock it is nigh impossible to tell them apart... you can never know...
Breed her and see for yourself, or check with the person from whom you got her if both sire and dame were hypos.

Just a quick update on this little girl. When I took her weight March 23 she was 201 grams. Today she tipped the scale at 289 grams! I only feed her once a week and she's growing so fast. Wish the cornsnakes would grow that fast. LOL She's about to shed again and I'll post more pics when she's done. :)

She is beautiful! The pictures from January are a little scary even to me & I am not knowledgeable about boas. What a turn around. I am so glad for you and for her.

Thanks Betsy. It took some extra TLC to her where she is now. I don't think she liked the idea of switch from live to f/t. But once she got a taste of yummy rat pups, she was hooked. LOL

Not sure what I'm going to do with this girl. She is gaining weight like crazy and I'm only feeding her about every 7 days. These pictures are horrible because she refused to stay still. She also looks a bit dark so maybe getting ready to shed again.

5-11-10 ~ 324 grams
