Chestnuts (aka Kastanies) in the USA

Lynnea

That's "lin-NAY-ah"
I've been wanting a pair of Kastanies for the longest time, and my wish came true! I just imported this pair from Frank Schaub via Florian Bania (thank you both!!) at the Hamm show--I'm very pleased with both! It's going to be fun watching the girl grow and change. The '08 male is 66% ph amel, and the '09 girl is 66% ph hypo anery.

Congrats, Lynnea! I had heard you acquired a pair. I'm dreaming of getting a Kastanie, so obviously I'm envious. ;) They're beautiful!

Congrats Lynnea. I picked up a female '09 Kastanie and 1.2 CB'09 Rosy Bloodreds this year. Your animals are amazing looking!

This is a dumb question. Will the female change to look more like the male as she matures?

Not dumb at all! They hatch out looking almost like aneries and develop their coloration as they mature. So yes, the female will develop like the male. "Mandarins" are amel Chestnuts.

Beautiful snakes Lynnea! I just fed McQueen tonight, he is 48g now. He is a real "mellow" snake. Hope to see ya again at the Charlotte show.

very nice animals! :)
good to see that they have arrived at your place and everything worked fine with scott! ;)
btw. Franks surname is Schaub! ;)

Hey, nice to see that they arrived. I'm glad you like them, have fun with them and good luck with the poss hets ;)

They are simply gorgeous! I'm not well versed with the kastanies (I tend to get them confused with Kisatchie, as well as confusing tessera and terrazzo), but I do love the color whenever I see them! Maybe some day I'll dabble with this morph, but not right now as my plate is already overloaded. Hmmm...I wonder how Sunkissed would mix with them? Dilute would probably be a poor choice as the bright color is what stands out.

I can't believe I made that typo--now corrected!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I wonder what a Mandarin Cinder would look like...?

I love these guys. I saw them at Don Soderberg's table this year at Arlington and I was sorely tempted. They start out life quite homely and develop into beautiful animals. The females seem to be more drab than the males; kind of like lav bloods, ghosts and hypo lavs. My Rosy Bloods followed that pattern as well. I will be fun to see what happens with yours.
Terri
