1.0 XXX, 0.01 XXX, etc

Hi,

Being relatively new to the herp hobby, I'm not familiar with this nomenclature/abbreviation/what's the word?. I think I understand it, but I could use an explanation.

I think:
1.0 XXX equals 1 male of morph x
0.1 YYY equals 1 female of morph YYY and
0.0.1 ZZZ equals 1 unsexed of morph ZZZ.

Is this correct, or am I totally off-base?

Just curious,
Kevin

I believe...

...what Kevin was doing was giving an example.

1.0 Amelanistic equals 1 male Amelanistic

Amelanistic being the morph.

For examples of other morphs see Sepwidgets site

Hope that helps.

No, in that case, you would have a 0.0.1 normal.

Since you are uncertain of the sex of your snake, it is listed as 0.0.1, which means (zero males, zero females, and one unknown).

"Normal" isn't a morph; it is the absence of morphs. So, by calling it a normal, you are saying that there are no hiddn hets in your snake, or if there are, you do not have the necessary proof to substantiate calling it anything beyond a normal.

Hope that helps to clear it up a bit for you --

Ok so...

If you have a Normal corn and you don't know it's sex it would be as follows.

0.0.1 Normal

If it was a male it would be:

1.0.0 Normal

If it was a female it would be:

0.1.0 Normal

Usually people drop off the unknown (3rd) spot if the sex is known so it looks more like:

Female
0.1 Normal

Male
1.0 Normal

Male.Female.Unknown Morph(or type of cornsnake)

Would it help if you thought of morph more like type?... as in the type of cornsnake you have.

I get the morph and I get the 0.0.1 now tell me what is het?

I will descibe my baby to you and then maybe you can tell me what morph it is...

has a light tan almost white background, the spots are crimson almost purple and if its body were more purple I would say it was a lavender but the pet store labeled it a plain jane corn.

Maiden,

Here is a link for a thread in which the same question was asked and answered.

However, please be sure to read all the way to the last post, and then click on the link at the bottom of Serp's post to go to his genetics tutorial. That particular site is exceptionally good in its explanations on a deeper level.

Have fun ...
