1 pipped & hatched 5/25-5/26, none of the rest are showing any signs of life?

LindsayMarie

Been here awhile
Well the first pippy hatched all the way out and right now I still have him in the incubating container, not sure if I should remove him? I was hoping he would "stimulate" some of the other eggs to dent in or pip? He never even dented in before he pipped? They are 65 days today and have been incubating between 80-84 the entire time. I am worried that I may have accidently killed the others when I had to move them to make room for the top egg. I had a thread about it not even 2 weeks ago. Most said the eggs should be fine as long as the tops stayed up, they did. But I am seeing "black" areas in/on the eggs, is that decaying babies? I dont know, here is a link to a picture of what the eggs look like. Nice and plump. I dont get it! Any ideas, suggestions. I mean alot of breeders make small slices 24-48 hours after the first pip! I either had a early bloomer or the other 15 went bad, but look perfect? Here is a link to the thread I have started on the clutch!

Also, should I take him out and put him in his own container and likewise with the rest of the hatchers (if there are any)? Or do I take him out and put him in something bigger to accomodate most of the clutch till shedding time? Together or apart? Thank you, Lindsay

My what a nervous mother you are! Relax and don't panic! There is plenty of time yet for those eggs to pip. I tend to remove hatchlings and place them in their own individual containers once they hatch. Usually, I just get that chance once a day and I have several at a time, but if it's a clutch that I'm watching closely, the hatchlings barely have time to get out of the egg before I've separated them. I've had some clutches that all pipped within a 24-48 hour period, and others that have taken over a week for the entire clutch to pip. Give them some time. If you still don't have any more eggs pip by tomorrow, you can slit one to see if the hatchling is still alive.

Agree with Susan - they're fine and just taking their own sweet time. If they're in a clump with the heat source underneath, then the bottom eggs would have been slightly warmer and therefore will hatch a little bit before the eggs higher up.

I've had one clutch that took two weeks between the first and last eggs hatching. Whilst this length of time is unusual, it isn't an indication that there's anything wrong with either the eggs or the hatchlings.

I usually take the hatchlings out around 24 hours after hatching and put them into their new "home" tubs.

It's advisable to keep them separate at all times, as the risk of cannibalism is highest in hatchlings. It also helps to know who has shed, so you know when to offer the first meal.

Thank you for replying yesterday Susan and Bitsy! It helped me relax some :spinner:

I wanted to update and let everyone know, a couple more have there little heads out, one a little further then the other. Some of the other eggs look to be getting tiny slits, so hopefully they will all bloom today and tomorrow?! Thats if they go "by the book" ;) I am going to take a picture of them in a little bit and then post the kind of blurry pic I took yesterday of the baby who hatched. I had someone call it a nice lav...lol Both parents are supposed to be hypo A, so everything should be at least hypo A, got to love this project! Looks like another like yesterdays and a pinker one so far. Thanks again.

PS. Maybe this thread will help others, whose eggs dont dent in! My eggs didnt dimple, dent or anything, just a head appeared and later hatched, then nothing for almost 48 hours since the first pip, now have couple more heads. So things dont always go as planned

Clutches can hatch over an extended number of days if there's a temperature gradation of a few degrees in the incubation media. I personally wouldn't cut any eggs :) Just wait & see!! Post more photos :dancer:

Remember, hatchlings will peek their heads out & remain in the eggs for 24+ hrs. Don't disturb them during this time. I remove them once they are fully out of the egg. Best of luck on a good hatch!!

Sorry your eggs didn't read any of the right books. lol I'm glad things are progressing for you. I totally get the nervous anticipation associated with hatching time. I think I sat next to the incubator while my first ever clutch hatched. I'm with Piper; more pictures please!

I'm glad to hear that some more have pipped! And as for denting/dimpling prior to hatching...I may get only one or two clutches a year that will do that. Most of the time, the eggs stay nice and plump until the hatchlings pip.

I missed where you said more pipped. You remember my friend that hatched the tri-color hoggy twins? I think she's had clutches where the first and last baby were three weeks apart!

Thanks again for all the help! I was worried there for a bit, well ok, more like a LONG time...lol

Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know that further updates and pictures will be in the other thread at the top of the page, but I will put another link to it:

Thanks again! Enjoy the pics and have fun guessing the morphs...lol
