15 yr old corn

hey, I've got a 15 year old corn (female obviously) and this year was the first year it ever produced eggs, it's never had any health issues and has always been fit but for some reason just never laid a clutch until this summer (laid 18). Its never mated and spent the first 7 years of its life in southern california and the last 8 in colorado. Any ideas what caused this as i haven't really heard of this happening before and was beginning to think that my snake had been mis-gendered. anyone had a similar experience or think there's something i should be concerned about?

They can just do that! I'm surprised she waited so many years, though. I'd just check her carefully to make sure all the eggs are laid, and pay attention to feeding her to get her weight back to normal.

yea, it was actually probably a pretty close call, the first 17 came out no problem but she carried the last one for over a week and half longer than the rest, it was finally a few bathtub soaks that got it out and thankfully without rupturing anything internally. since then though she's had an extremely healthy appetite and looks great so i think its all working out.

but yea, i was just kinda surprised that she waited so long, i figured she had to be either barren for some reason or actually a male, but i guess not haha

Have answered in your other thread on the Breeding forum. No need to post twice - we're a pretty attentive bunch here!
