I don't think your male is a Caramel...or even a corn. The head pattern, color and saddle shape/count of the babies made me suspect they were hybrids. Did you get the dad from a respectable breeder?

Agreed, I saw the head patterns and immediately wondered. I am sure several folks will come on and let you know how wrong I am, but I think your "caramel" is actually a Deckert's Rat Snake. Either way, it definitely is not a corn snake.

Those are interesting babies, congrats! They are special that's for sure, please post some pics after they shed I'm interested in seeing their "true" colors ;)

I agree that they're probably hybrids, and gorgeous ones at that! Dad looks like a Texas rat?

Congrats on your first babies!
I would like to see how they progress after their first sheds.
I haven't seen many rat/corn hybrids... I bet they are lookers.

So who's the Daddy?

It looks like Woods, is a rat snkae then.

Will try to post some more pictures of him if antone can identify for certain. I will also post update on how the babies are doing.

Thanks for you help,

Thanks for you help,

at first i though he was a yellow rat snake but im strting to think gulfhammock
ratsnake (grey rat snake x yellow rat snake) but im not sure but label the hatchlings as rat x corn hybrids when you sell them.

Recount

Thanks for all the posts.

Just seperated the last one, or so i thought into a seperate container and found another hiding. so it's 18 in total. Will try to get some more photo's later this evening.

As to selling them, I would of course like to home them all. Never thought about value as I didn't expect to hatch so many. Any ideas?

P.s Got another clutch in the incubator.

Over here they would sell for probably $15-20...not sure how the market is over there. Please label them as hybrids if you do sell them!

Again thanks everybody for your interest.

I will try to post some better pictures of Woods so hopefully someone can ID him as to type of rat snake.

All 18 babies are doing fine so far I will hopefully post some better quality pictures later today.

Amel x Rat 3 days old
