1st Double Clutch

Our candycane gave us her (and our) first double clutch on sunday.17 eggs in total only one of which looks anyway slugish. Her first clutch are now on day 53 and with the seven hatchlings from our other female which are all feeding (and now defecating) like there`s no tommorrow it looks like we`re going to get pretty busy here. Her first clutch was only 13 all of which still look good so i was a bit surprised to get 17 (16 good) eggs from the second clutch. She was re-introduced to a second male as we`re hoping one of the males are het for amel but i still expected a smaller second clutch.Just wondering is this usual as it is our first snake to double clutch and i`d read that second clutches were usually smaller and often less fertile than the first (perhaps that`s only the case if a second mating doesn`t occur and female only uses sperm retained from the first mating (pre-1st clutch).

My aztec doubled last week to make 9 lovely healthy eggs and no slugs after a clutch of 13 and no slugs in round 1.

I think it goes from individual to individual but perhaps husbandry has something to do with how effectively the sperm is retained and utilized for clutch #2.
