2010 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show

Jynx

Digger, RN
So, the Scottsdale show was a bit mellow for the Binion clan this year. Usually, I am an entirely too busy to even think about trying to take pictures or even watch any of the other classes. With only 4 horses scheduled for classes out of the entire family, we actually got to relax and play spectators :) My filly Hadiya (aka BS), my Uncle's colt Fausto and filly Hephita, and my Mom's stallion Rufio were entered in halter classes this year.

BS and Hephita competed yesterday morning in the Yearling Filly class. Both girls did well (although BS looked like she was going to fall asleep). Mom showed BS in hand, and my cousin Trevor showed Hephita in hand. Both fillies secured a spot in the top ten (WOO!), and Hephita was named Reserve Yearling filly. Hephita was super blowy and prancy, but BS seemed like she's seen it all before a million times, and was unimpressed. As a matter of fact, I had both my vet and the grounds vet come check her out just to make sure she was ok because this is waaaaaaaaay out of character for her. Thankfully, nothing popped up. Maybe she just felt lazy :shrugs: Both of the girls are done and get to come home today :) Yay!

Fausto's class that was supposed to be scheduled for yesterday has been moved to today. He will be competing in the Yearling colts halter class. Rufio will be competing in the Stallion halter classes on Sunday morning. Mom has been focused on trying to promote him as a stud, so he's been out and about like crazy. Since mom is the halter horse handler, I have been getting stuck with handling Rufio for "meet and greet" showings at the barn (*gumble grumble*). However, it has paid off and he has gained quite a bit of popularity.

My camera is currently at the on-sight barn right now, but since I'm home and updating this, I figured I would at least give you a glimpse. I wish I could say that I took these, but they are actually the "official" class pictures taken by a professional photographer. My pictures look like they were taken by a toddler compared to this. The cool thing is that you can kind of make out me in the background taking pictures in the owners box lol.

BS is just what we call her. I guess since she's an actual bonafide show horse now, I should call her by her real name - Hadiya Bint Bella. She's a little underdeveloped compared to the rest of these yearlings. She barely made the cut to get into the class (she's only 10 months old), and still has that "filly" heart. One of the judges actually called her a "cute chunky filly" while my mom was setting her up. She totally is :grin01:

Don't let her size fool you. Mom is only 5'4

And Hephita, my Uncle Mikey's filly. She's a spitfire, and gorgeous for sure. She's 13 months old, and has grown into herself beautifully. She is a half-cousin to BS (her sire was BS's sire's brother). I'm a little jealous... she totally sets up better

Gorgeous photos! I can't believe BS looks so calm, compared to the spunky photos of her as a foal, I'd have thought she'd be totally fired up!

Wait until I bring my camera home. I have pictures of her practically asleep in the arena.

:shrugs:

I don't get it either. She was fired up just before they hit the gate (thanks to the baggers and rock shakers), but she just... chilled after that.

Yay Fausto! Good job on getting in the Top Ten (in a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig class of 33 colts!) :dancer:

What a handsome young man! I know his colour is still changing, but I love that blue steel shade he has now.

Thanks :) Can you believe he was almost sold off as a weanling? He was just a horribly ungainly colt at first, and everyone thought he was a throwback. We all expected him to come out practically glittering, considering his bloodlines. But he was about as plain as plain could be (or at least we thought). Uncle Mikey refused to sell him though. He kept saying "something's hiding." It must've been all that black fluffy coat hiding whatever that something was, because he blossomed as a coming yearling.

He's out of my old senior mare Serenity, who I gave to my uncle shortly before she foaled. Thats kind of why I parade him around a bit. Serenity was my lover girl, so I treat him as if he was like mine too. Boy, he and my uncle make a great duo though. That little colt will do pretty much anything my uncle tells him to do.
