2013 Breeding has begun!

While I was cleaning cages and feeding this evening I thought I would try putting Michelangelo (Amel. Motley Male) and Donatello (Ghost Motley Female) together just to see what would happen...and as soon as they were in the bin together they were doing the dance! About 5 minutes later, they locked up, and have been locked up for about an hour now. :D

This is Donatello's first time breeding, and seeing as she was my very first snake ever, I will be watching her extremely carefully. I'm really looking forward to what could come of this pairing, seeing as I only know Michelangelo's hets, not D's. I know they will all be motley, so that's nice...but what colors? Hmmmm......

Anyway, enough chat...here are some pictures for you all! Sorry about the quality....my phone sucks and I didn't want to run downstairs to get my big camera, nor did I want to disturb them too much.

Congrats on the hookup...now the excitement and waiting patiently on eggs and pipping begins (that is the hard part for us).

Oh I know. My other female had a clutch last year, and I thought I was going to go insane waiting to see what they looked like lol.

This one is going to drive me bonkers too because she is my first snake, and it's her first time being bred ever so I'm excited and nervous.

Both M and D were rewarded tonight with a nice fat mouse, and put back in their homes. I will pair them up again in a few days, after they've had a chance to digest. :D

Big Congrats!!!

I tried Mine as well.....All i got was a big pile of Poo to clean up! ;)

Congrats on the lock up. I can't wait till my little ones are ready for their first pairing. Keep us posted!

These two are awesome! Apparently my timing was perfect! Every time I put them in together, BOOM...they waste no time! I can't wait to see what they can produce!

I love their clashing colors.

Well, D has gone in to shed! So I put in a "moss pit" for her (a big Tupperware tub filled with sphagnum moss) and she went right in. She is also very fat and puffy, so I'm hoping that means she is gravid! Keeping fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly.

Mama D has shed, and started leaving me slugs randomly laying around her cage. :(

I'm not entirely surprised to see the slugs, but I am still hoping to see at least one good egg. I'm leaving her alone, other than to re-wet the moss, because I really don't want to stress her out. Not when she is already stuffed full. I'm keeping an eye on her for getting egg bound and doing my research on what that looks like and what to do if that happens.

Other than being fat and irritable though, she seems to be doing fine, so that makes me feel better. Still a worried mom though!

Well, Donatello is working on her eggs! So far I can see at least 5 good eggs, out of about 10. It looked like she still might have a couple left to lay though so I just checked on her really fast then left her alone. I'll check again first thing tomorrow. This is exciting! My girl is proving herself to be the trooper she always has been!

Update time!

Of those 5 eggs only three have made it. The rest started to go bad after about 2 weeks.
Today when I checked on them, I found this! An early pipper!

It's too early to tell what it is yet, but hopefully by the end of the night or tomorrow I will have a new little worm squiggling around. :D
