48Lx18Hx12D or 36Lx18HX18D- 5ft slender corn

Right now I'm feeling that my corn is a little cramped in the Reptarium that is only 30 inches long (30Lx16.5x16.5). I'm ready to get a new tank but having a hard time deciding whether I want a nice long tank so it can stretch out, a 48 inch, or, a 36 inch that's wider. The thing about the 36 inch- I'm only gaining a half a foot. Is it even worth it to get a new tank for a half a foot?

The snake has been out a lot lately- I don't know if it's because it's staying lighter longer or if it is going stir crazy.

If you have the room and the money go for the big one. Keep in mind that it is not necessary for the snake. The one you have now is big enough for the snake. Any changes you make will be to make yourself happy, not the snake.

I think the length plus the width of the cage should add up to the length of the snake. So you might be a little small right now but not really out of line.

Nooooo. Length + Width of terrarium = length of snake. Or there about. It is not an exact science.

I'm workin a formula right now in order to get permission/forgiveness to get another snake.

It'll have something to do with gallons per snake. Right now I have a total of 78 gallons of living space spread over 4 tanks, and an average of only 28 inches of snake per tank based on 3 tanks. That's just under three gallons of living space per inch of snake. With that rationale, compounded by me being halfway through my third glass of wine for the night, with the first two of those being a Port, it comes down to the fact that I need more snake.

Argue with that :)

Well wine will make the formula much more complex. In the morning give some thought to the fact that cornsnakes are more concerned with area than volume.

lol, can never argue against more snake! gosh, if i could i wouldn't have so many!

as for tank size, it's all really up to you. the biggest tanks i have are 36X18X18. but keep in mind lots of corns are houses in racks & tubs of the appropriate size, so like wade said it's all really up to you. if you go for the big, BIG one, make sure you use shredded aspen chips, and provide lots of extra hides to reduce stress.
