On the outside looking in
I picked up a 5.5 gallon tank at a yard sale, and I was wondering if I could keep a hatchling (corn, MBK, or hoggie) in one for any amount of time. And if so, for how long?

I had originally planned to keep a betta in it but changed my mind. I don't want the tank to go waste, though.

I think you could keep a hatching in it for a little while. I have kept babies in 10 gallon tanks until they were around a year old, so maybe you could keep a baby in yours until it was around 6 months old? You'd just have to be the judge of when you thought it looked too cramped.

You need to have room for two hides and a water dish, and a temperature gradient. I think the smallest heat mats are 4"x5" so that should be okay.

I use them with the mini sized heat mat. I get a 10+ degree temp gradient. It really matters on the growth of the snake to know when they will grow out of it.
