If you go with cypress, keep in mind that it is generally packaged for use in the garden, not for use in a snakes enclosure. As a former pro landscaper, I have often encountered globs of machine grease in bags of cypress. Also be danged certain to read the back of the bag!!! Many times reading the back label reveals the product inside the bag is "a blend of cypress and other indeterminate hardwoods". There is even one company named "The Cypress Mulch Company" which markets bags labeled "Cypress Mulch", but the contents often contain NO cypress mulch.
Also, because your Location is "out and about", please keep in mind that the word "Cypress" is a vernacular, not a botanical name. "Cypress" is used to descripe the Genus Taxodium, Cupressus, Juniper, Taxus, And several other species of coniferous trees. Some kinds are toxic. Trees called "Cypress" in various parts of the world might, or might not, have toxic essential oils.
