A few concerns with my 3yr old female corn

Hi all i am a little worried about my 3 yr old corn, she has not eaten at all for 3 weeks and quite restless and jumpy. Tonight i noticed when you run your hand down her body she seemed to jerk/pulse through her body, she is much faster than normal as she is normally very laid back and quiet. She is showing no sign of aggression. Her normal feeding is one adult mouse per week to ten days.

Here are some details about her:-

she is 5 foot long

she weighs 870g

she is 3 years old

thanks for any advice

3 weeks is not too long, but if it continues for more weeks I'd be concerned. Snakes go off their feed for different reasons, breeding season is a biggie. Mine did only once for a little over a month, she hardly lost any weight at that time.
Your snake is a nice size, she can go for a while without eating.
Did anything change around her, in the viv or the room?

hi alan no nothing else has changed around her. How often does a corn go into season as she went off food this time last year but not for so long.

Breeding season is now from what I understand. The males usually/somethings go off feed during this time. I'm not sure if the females do as a rule too.

i do have a male corn he is just over a year old he is more active at the moment but eating fine. He was out earlier after the female had been out and he was keen to follow where she had been if not a bit obsessed.

she shys away from food but i will keep trying and do they only come into season once a year as that would explain why she went off her food a bit last year.

no male is having much smaller mice but has a healthy appetite as he is normal size for his age the female has always been on the big size for her age but have been told by the breeder she is just a large snake

She is fine; she is exhibiting very typical breeding season behaviour (see the recent thread 'vibrating corn'!).

With males, I would advising waiting 2 weeks or more between attempted feeds, but with your girl you could offer more often, since the ladies don't typically go off food as long as the males do, if at all. Seriously though, as lenny has said, she is a big girl and she can go many weeks without food and suffer no ill effects whatsoever. I'm sure you'll find she won't be fasting for too much longer.

thanks for info Tracee, the vibrating corn thread explained alot about the symptons i am experiencing with ludo my female corn. I have decided to learn a bit more about breeding first as there seems more to it than i first thought and i may try breeding them next year.

I had a lady corn go on a three month feeding strike this winter. The only thing that got her eating again was rat pinks. She will now take mice fuzzies, but nothing bigger...Oh, and she did not lose any weight during her strike.

I have a male snow that will only eat every 2-3 weeks (usually 3) during the breeding season. It's annoying but nothing to worry about. :)

My boy went off his food and hid under his rock for 3 weeks this winter season. When he came out he shed and ate. He too, was jerking and vibrating when I touched him then I read the vibrating corn thread. It's been about 3-4 weeks since then. He stopped making those movements but has been quite active and (seemingly) more hungry, but I have only just started being a regular handler (after a lot of encouragement from great forum dwellers) so I have been wondering about whether or not he was/is experiencing his first "feelings" of maturity. (he's 17-mths). Although, he is of course, getting more exercise with the handling so I felt he 'might' also be responding to that.

Please post when she eats again.

Yep, sounds like all the classic symptoms.

and (seemingly) more hungry
Beware of interpreting any "searching" behaviour/increased activity as hunger or looking for more food - he's actually looking for a laydee. Do't be fooled into offering more than his usual diet. If he's not on a breeding season fast, then he'll eat anything you give him - just because he scoffs extra rations, doesn't mean he wanted or needed them!

hahaha... he totally scammed me for an early feed. Funny thing is, I typed my last response at the office. Got home, and he is stretched out, but leaning upright mornfully against the side of his viv. It has a screen top and he is just waving his face up against the screen which is him probably searching for the "scent of a woman".

He is so cute - all lovesick fella's are.

It's funny because I checked him out and was no, you aren't hungry again. Logged on and saw this post.

How adorable are our snakes.

will be trying them both later for a feed although neither of them seem to be showing any sign of hunger now even the male is not searching like he normally would

I worried about the same thing....We have 2 proven females, a proven male and one we now are pretty sure is a very prego female... and they are ALL 4 not feeding... 2 have shed, (1 of which is the VERY FAT gravid girl) the other is the "NUTZY" girl that head bangs the glass!
The 2 upper keys 1.0 and 0.1, are both hiding and will shed ANY DAY NOW! My Hubby assures me that "not feeding" is normal this time of year... And it is nice to hear that repeated here...

And last year, I do recall that the one and only Corn we had then, Whytsnake, not only refused food for about a month, but was VERY AGGITATED! As far as... "Gotta Go Gotta GO!" when he other wise loved being held... and like you said.. not aggressive.. just NOT relaxed!! LOL But it went away just about as fast as it started... Hang in there!
