I haven't done any herping this year so far, but here's a few pics from the past. First few pics are in York River State Park, in James City co. Va. I moved this guy off the road after the pics. Black Rats in Va. tend to be solid, to almost solid jet black.

Another Black Rat on a different day, at York River State Park. This place is a haven for large black rats.

Here's a garter snake found south of Richmond along 301. He kept his mouth gaped the whole time while being held.

Here's another garter found this past fall. This ugly stub tailed Eastern Garter was found on a military base. She was sunning herself on the Flt. line, in very close range to moving Aircraft. I took a few photos, and released her back at the end of the day. She is in a coffee can, for size reference.
