A good feeding schedule ?

SnakesOfCorn

New member
I just got my first snake about 2 weeks ago, a corn. I believe it's a male, his name is Odinn. I fed him for the first time on Tuesday, he seemed to digest kinda fast and he pooped and peed today. He is about 12-15" long.

My question is since he has digested and had a boul movement can I feed him again ? He seems a little on the skinny side and I fed him a pinkie also. Should I move to the next size up maybe ? That's a fuzzy correct ?

I was thinking of fedding him another pinkie tomorrow and seeing if he wants it...then maybe try moving up to a fuzzie next week, if necessasary.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks, SC

I would suggest following the munson plan, I haven't figured out how to link things in a post yet, but you can either do a search for it on here, or someone more capable than I will step in to link it for you. It is a great general plan to go by when feeding your corn, and you can adjust accordingly for your individual snake! Congrats on the new snake, and have you posted pics yet? We love pics here!

Also is it possible to edit previous posts I've posted ? If so how ?

Thanks, SC

I can't find the actual link TO the Munson Plan, but this is it :

The Munson Plan (Sample Feeding Chart): Revised 06/08/08
-When they're on single pinks (2-3g), I feed every 5-6 days. (Snake = 4-15g)
-Double pinks (3g x 2) every 5-6 days. (Snake = 16-23g)
-Small fuzzies (5-7g) every 6-7 days. (Snake = 24-30g)
-Regular fuzzies (7-9g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 30-50g)
-Hoppers (9-12g) every 6-7 days (Snake = 51-90g)
-Weaned (14-20g) every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g)
-Adult (20-30g) every 7-x days (Snake = 170+) See below.

Note: Adult females are fed more frequently than adult males (especially following brumation). Adult females are fed every 7-12 days; adult males are fed every 11-14 days.

This is by no means scientific, and not all corns will cooperate 100% with the schedule. The weight ranges I gave for the prey and snakes are approximate.

And figures I forgot something :

No, you cannot edit a previous post unless you're a paid member I believe.

Thanks a lot for the feeding chart, that will help me out BIG time. Now I just need to get a scale to keep track of his weight. What kind of scales to you guys/girls use ?

I think I may have also made a grave mistake...this past week was the first time I fed Odinn, my corn, and also the first time I've ever fed a snake. I was talking to a buddy today who has had a lot of snakes in the past and he said to make sure the snakes swallow the mice head first......this is true ???

If so Odinn swallowed his pinkie butt first....should I be worried about anything ??? Just in case it makes a diffrence which I'm sure it very well may the feeding was a live feeding :(

As long as he took it and swallowed it without too much trouble, I think taking rump-first is alright, as I've heard a lot of snakes do it. The concern with that I believe is the hind legs.

As for a scale I just use the digital scale you use for cooking. Found mine in the utensil isle in Walmart and weighs up to 1000 grams I believe.
