For the first time, I actually saw one of my snakes, Ami, shed his skin yesterday. I knew he was about to do so as he had turned blue a few days ago. When I picked him up yesterday, just before feeding, it was obvious by the texture of his skin that he was going to shed within the day. A few minutes later after preparing their meal, I seperated him and Rube and gave them each a thawed mouse. It was then I noticed the shed peeled back from his head. Much to my surprise he grabbed the mouse and swallowed it quickly before resuming his shedding.
This surprised me as I had always heard that corns tend to lose theri appetites when shedding. Has anybody seen their snake eat in the middle of shedding? Taking a break from changing his skin for a snack didn't seem to produce any problems. It was fun to watch and he was such a nice bright purple when he finished!
