A New Rescue

I went to the feed store to get food for my rats and they had a bunch of rabbits which is normal for Easter time unfortunately. I was looking at them and they had no food, water and their bedding was filthy. Then I saw one rabbit with sores on it ears and when I looked closer it had holes from being attacked by another rabbit and its nose is split in half. It was also dity, bug infested and thin. I tried to sex it but it wouldn't hold still, but I thought it was a girl. I couldn't leave her there it would have bothered me. After a bath I discovered she was a he and he has bite wounds on his testicles also. So now he is safe, clean (but still stinks), and his nails were cut and wounds were cleaned.

My other rabbits are all spayed and this guy will be neutered also. He may or may not stay here, I guess it depends on if my 3 girls like him or not. My girls do not live in a cage they live in a large dog pen inside, so if he gets along with them he can live there with them if not I do not have room for another pen or large cage so I will find him a loving indoor home.

The feed store just south of CMCH! Wow.

Yup, this is the first time I have ever seen a rabbit there in this condition, but I wasn't happy and I couldn't leave the poor guy like that he would have died from an infection. I think I might start ordering my rat food so I don't have to go there anymore.

2 things..first, Katie I am so glad you rescued this little guy! He needed an angel and there you were. :)

Second thing, Craftyrat.com (or something like that). They carry Harlan. The shipping is somewhat of a killer, but you can buy enough for a few months. When I had ratties (and oh how I miss them .....) I used to order from them.

Which type of Harlen would you recommend?

That part always confused me. I used to try the different ones except the one for pregnant does, since I usually had either boys or spayed girls. They tended to love all of it anyway. :)

Hmmmm. Not like him. Maybe getting to big/overwhelmed since "buying out" Bob's.

Yea I normally never had problems with them and they are always nice to me but I don't think they have the time to pay attention to rabbits with all that needs to be done around there. I really wish they would stop getting them.

The only other problem I have had with them is I had a Ball Python that only ate live rats and their rats are infested with rat lice and cost my over $100 to treat my pet rats for the lice so I had to get rid of that snake.
