About feeding...

I caught a 20"-22" corn snake about 4-5 days ago and have let him settle in (he even doesn't seem to mind being handled) so I have finally attempted to feed him a mouse. I've never had a snake before, but I read care sheets and I de-thawed it in warm water and it is now on a piece of styrofoam plate but he isn't showing any interest. How long should I wait? What do I do if he doesn't eat it? What could I do to make him more comfortable or what not?

Thanks!

Being wild caught you may have to feed it live since it has probably never come across a F/T mouse before.

As long as you have a heat gradiant (a warm side about 84f ideally, and a cool side around 72-75f) and at least 2 hides 1 on the warm and 1 on the cool side, maybe another 1 or 2? if you have the room in the enclosure, a bowl of water thats changed dailly, and a good substrate (asphen, bark chips(light or dark) newspaper, ect) then i would say leave the snake with the mouse overnight and see if it eat's it.
Also what size mouse is it? For that size snake i would recomend a fuzzie.

Yes I do, here is a picture of his tank. He is usually on the cooler side, in the smaller coconut hut but right now he is buried in the actual substrate. I only have small-large pinky mice because I was suppose to buy a hatchling, but this little guy showed up. You can sort of see him in the back. I placed the mouse between the hut to the left and the water bowl, around where he is buried.

Try as Dand said and use a live fuzzie if your not squimish that is, and that it's ok to live feed where you live (it's illeagal in the UK, but their are stubbern hatchlings that will only accept live.... ahem) otherthen that try a small enclosure with 3mm air holes in and leave the snake overnight with the food to see if that does the trick. If you have already removed the mouse then wait 4 days before trying again, and never leave a F/T more then 24 in the viv if not eaten.

Thanks a lot, but I just wanted to say that when I woke up this morning he had eaten it! I'm pretty happy I'm not having any complications so far, I was just wondering... since the mice are smaller than ideal, should I feed another one? And when?

Thanks tons, again!

Oooh okay... thanks. He still seems hungry.. should I still wait the 4 days? He keeps wandering the cage and even peeps his head out when he see's me.

yeah still wait the 4, he may look hungry but they are also greedy, especially at this size, last thing you need is a regurge.

ne chance of getting a better picture of ur snake mate what morph is he cuz that myt tell weather its an exacpt pet or a wild.

Glad to hear he ate. :) Nice setup, too. About the only thing I'd do different is to add some fake greenery (you can find it cheap at wal-mart or a crafts store) so that way he feels more secure. If he's a wild one, he'll probably appreciate that. Makes the display pretty, too.

I still say that's some luck, having the snake show up all ready to move in... ;)

Thanks a lot everybody! So I'll feed him again Monday night, great. I was at the pet store last night but they were so expensive! It was like $10 for the fake vines so I decided to wait until we go to Wal-Mart or something.

Oh yeah, here's a better picture of him:
