Hello my name is Derek. I have had my corn snake for 3 monthes now and I think he might be getting ready to shed. On his head it looks like the scales is getting all weird and then i noticted they are comming off. He has been showing the signs but like 2 days ago he was acting all weird all of a sudden. I looked at him and he went crazy and started to roam around the cage. I kinda worried plz help.

Scales coming off? You mean bits of skin or the actuall scale?

You say you have your corn for 3 months now. Is this the first time he sheds? How old/big is he?

Even is this is a true shedding, just small amounts of Skin/scales coming off in patches is not good. This means that you temps nad humidity need to be looked at and possibly adjusted. Can you give temp ranges in the viv and humidity levels?

Your definately right pcar. Something seems to be wrong. What bedding do you use Derek_cornsnake

I use shedings and it was skin comming off. He is about 13" and umm... lide a nickle size big around. I dont have a humidity gage I need to get one. and do they eat their own skin like lizards? because if they do he might have already have shed.

Whew run on sentences lol.. As stated above and seeing you live in Texas, your going to need some humidity. I make a shed area for my snakes get spanglum moss (not Pete)and a terriacotta plate.

Find a gladware/Deli cup make a hole towards the opening of the container, for the snake to enter. Get the moss damp you don't want dripping wet because that can cause problems too much moisture.

Put the damp moss on the plate put your deli cup on top, to cover plate and moss and there ya go.. You may have to mist the moss everyday it will dry out. Your snake will go to it.

Any updates on your snake? Has it fully shed yet? How big is the water dish that you have in the viv? If it isn't big enough for your snake to lay in it, then you need to increase the size. Snakes seem to know when they need more moisture, and will usually curl up in their water when they need to. Mine do anyway. Also, Krenna mentioned misting the Moss. Something else that you can do, is to mist the viv too. Get a spray bottle, set the nozzle on the finest mist setting, and then just mist away. Do this once a day (I do it in the morning) and then as the temps start to rise, you have instant humidity. But, don't do this if you don't have a humidity gage.

Derek, You will probably have to do this a couple of times so that you can lossen the skin that could still be stuck on the snake. Let us know what happens.

Well, they are a bit bigger than pinkies, and they have started to grow hair. if your snake is eating 2 pinks, then I would say to wait till you are feeding 3 until you move up to fuzzies.
