I got my corn snake last September. I bought her from a previous owner. Shes 9 or 10 years old. The past month or maybe a little longer she has been SUPER active. At first I was kinda freeked out, but I figured it is probably just mating season. Then last time I went to feed her she was very very jumpy, And she leaped after her frozen mouse. (she normally goes around her feeding cage several times before going up to the mouse and eating it.) Then today when I went to feed her she bit me! When I read about corn snake bites before I got her they said they rarely bite and a lot of times don't even puncture the skin. Well she definetly punctured my skin!
When we got her the owners said that after their daughter went on vacation that she bit her once.

Could she be biting because I havnt been holding her as much lately?
I wash my hands before I hold her, I let her "check me out" before I pick her up, and I don't just rush in and grab her.

Thanks!

I had the same thing happen to me too tonight! Everyone was getting fed tonight but Bootsie, he is over 900g and still growing every time! I am cutting him down to 1 XL mouse every two weeks, so when he saw everyone else eating when I put my hand in (and I KNEW this was totally wrong) near his face and he struck, held on, and coiled my arm. I blew hard in his face, then I squeezed his jaws and he let go on the top, the bottom was still locked in but I got it off. I was bleeding bad.

My fault totally, I had just been handling mice and stuck my hand near his head. I usually pick him up in the middle, so I don't know why I did it. Poor kiddo, he is my favorite and I had to deprive him of the mice he smelled when I brought the other corns in for each of my other babies.

I should have gotten a pic of him holding on, but Jim took one when I get him off. It really didn't hurt, startled a bit, and he was REALLY taking a grip to my arm!

You can see the inverted V on the top of my hand (the other cut above it is old) and his bottom teeth sunk into my thumb, those were the ones that I had to pull him back from, so there are several bites there too. Lots of blood, but it cleaned up nicely.
