Active Snake

Hey everyone

During the last week or so my female corn snake has been very active.

We have tried to feed her twice now and she will not eat. She's out and about trying to get out of her cage and is trying to burrow in her shavings. She's 4 1/2 years old.

She's usually hiding in her rock where it's dark and warm and only comes out to drink and eat. But lately she's out all the time pacing. Why would she be acting this way? Do female corns come into mating mode?? Is she wanting to mate or lay eggs?? Im not concerned about her health at all just about the way she's been acting. Any help would be great :)

probably just that time of year but..
are you sure it is a female?

have you changed feeder type/size or source?

Yes I am quite positive it's a female. The person I bought her from said it was a she. I have not changed her feeders they are still adult mice I can't really go any bigger than that. We have just been offering her food once a week but she just doesn't feel like it.

Do males display this type of behaviour?

many males go off their feed in the spring, thinking about other stuff too much LOL.

unless it has laid eggs, ya never know100% that it's female.

you should notice if she is gravid, she will get chubby on her lower half.

as long as she doesn't loose weight i wouldn't be too worried about her.

i had a king act that way but.... it turned out she hated rats, sadly the male was on rats for months so we didn't link her fasting with the switch which is why i asked.

she(well we think it's a she) was super active for a couple of weeks then went back to being shy.

i would give her another week or two before worrying much, if she gets chubbier stick a nesting box in,

I hate to "drop the bomb" but don't believe everything you hear... Unless you had a vet check the sex, it could be a male. I have had even best friends of mine "lie" to me, because they believe false info. How long have you had this snake? You say shes 4.5 years old? Were you told that as well by the same person? I am not telling you that you were lied to, just sayin take some things with a grain of salt, depending on where you got that snake, (yard sale, flea market) the seller might have wanted to just get rid of the snake. I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but I want to make sure we can give you the best help possible. If shes really older than 4.5, or its a male this could be a variety of things. Have your temperatures gone up recently / dramatically? "Her" movement could be related to comfort levels. If a cage is too hot she will actively seek a comfortable place to hide.

Forgive me if this post doens't make sense, I been up all night, and had a really long day :/

I was really excited to see this post, my female has been displaying the same behavior. Being very active and shows very little interest in her food. She has been burrowing in her substrate more than usual and hasn't been using her hides. The temp gradient has stayed the same, so has the humidity. I'm at a loss at what she's up to, unless she's just horny?

She's 7, almost 8. And while I'm not 100% she's female, I sexed her young and I'd say I'm at least 90% sure.
